Timing Problem?
The distributor was taken out, so I moved the motor to TDC and put the dist back in, pointing at the #1 cylinder. The motor runs, barely, you need to give it gas for it to start and it will idle at just over 2000 RPMs. If you hit the gas it will sputter really bad and almost die, if you ease into the gas it will rev up to about 4000 RPMs then want to die. Do i need to move a tooth or two on the timing chain, I tried the distributor in a tooth off each way and it wont run. Also, when it sputters or after 4000 RPMs, it will spit gas out of the carberator. This is an '84 22R by the way. What do I need to do. I cant take the whole front of the motor off right now, I need it moved. Do you think its the timing chain off on the sprockets or what? If it is, which way should I turn the top sprocket?
