shift boot difference
 

so after shining up the plate and cleanign up the rubber boot from my brothers 4runner i was going to install it on my truck. after taking off the broken plastic ring and the torn rotting leather. i unbolt my metal plate and notice his is longer and the shift levers are going in different directions and wont fit on my truck. is this a 4runner to pick up diffrence or a fuel injection to carb difference. im hoping its 4runner to pick up difference so i can go to a local pick a part and get the pickup version with the 'cool looking' rubber shift boot. or maybe sr5 to standard i dont know.

20R to 22RE difference. IIRC in the 22RE's the lever was on the right and the 22R lever sticks into the driver's calf.

so is there any way to get the better and non retarted looking boots into my truck? or an i stuck with leaving the crappy leather thing on top?

It kind of looks like you could make it to work if you can get the boots out and rearrange their direction.

i can but the boots and the whole underneath of the metal is all one huge peice of rubber. i could cut the boots out and make them go the right direction but i fear then i will lose the water proofing of the vehicle in that spot.

also i would have to put the 4runner rubber boots into my pickup metal plate. the pickup plates have circle openings and the 4runner boots are square on the bottom. could be tricky :think:

Of course, get the CORRECT rubber boot and install it. :pat:

And the "crappy leather thing" goes OVER the rubber thing, to make it look better. It was never supposed to be the thing that keeps water, fumes, smells, and noise out...

do they make those square beter looking rubber boots that will fit in my pickup? the metal thing out of the 4runner is too long and has square holes and the metal thing on my pickup has round holes. do they make a smaller metal thing for pickups with square holes and the 'better looking' boots? i thought i couldnt becuase i had a 22r and not a 22re?

alright boys, it turns out that my only choice was to cut and point the boots in the right direction. cut it up, cleaned up my pickup metal plate and bolted it in. when cutting the only trimming i did was to get rid of the gaps between the shift levers. this way the outer edge was still on the edge of the metal acting as a water prof layor. here are the final results. not quite straight, but way better than before.

it kinda covers your cb radio doesn't it?

yea thats the only part that i dont really like about it. i did install a drink holder between my seat and the t-case shifter. works verrrrrrrrrry good :) but im going to put an EQ under my head unit and i might have the cb radio put right under the EQ. some shaving of the dash may be needed but it doesnt matter. it will look better than it does now.

think it's the other way around. my 22RE lever is closer to the driver than the t-case lever.

20R 4x4s had the shifter close to the passenger, as it shifts from the right hand side of the tranny.
