seat belt upper bolt

Need help with getting the bolt back into the captive but that holds the seat belt up top. I must have messed up the threads when I took it out to work on the interior. I think I need to run a tap through it but I was told it was a 11mm x 2.5.....? Every tap and die set I've seen does not have an 11mm. I know the bolt is good because it will thread into the other side. The dealership said it would probable cost me about 100 bucks for them to do it. Any advice???

If i were you id forget about the stock size bolt. And tap it to the next size up, then install a new bolt. Throw out the old 11mm tap the threaded part to a 12mm and buy a new 12mm bolt with matching threads

Thanks I'll try that. I think that was to easy of a solution for me to think of.

yeah .. not a good idea (IMO) . This could be the difference between living and dying !! this is WHY it is a "special bolt"

don't just tap and stick any old bolt in there , make sure it is at least a Grade 11

In my 84, there were two places to install the upper bolt. For different heights of the driver/passengers. Mine was in the upper set, and rubbing on my neck, so I put them in the lower set and its much better.

Bottom line: You may have the option to install in a different factory blind nut, instead of requiring a re-tap... Take a look.

No, I only have one spot. Would be nice though.

Dang, that blows.

Awesome news by some random chance I did a search for the standard equvilant of 11 mm size bolt. And found a post on pirate and found out the bolts are actually 7/16 x 20. I had that tap so I ran it in and the bolt went right in perfect.

that is good to know ...

how did you actually move the bolt to the lower position? I just got a 1990 Toyota short bed truck and this may be a dumb question, but I don't want to break it. The belt is too high for my height. Thanks
