Revived a 1987 Pick-up

Ok, I got a 87 Pick-up with a 22R in it froma freind of a friend a few weeks ago, and pretty much brought it back from the grave. When I got it, it wouldn't start, and hadn't for a long time. I changed out all the fluids, cleaned out the air intake and carburation systems, replaced the master brake cylinder and tie rods, got all new belts, and got it running prety well. I've still got to get the back brakes working (probably a blockage in the lines), find out why the transmission is leaking, fix the a/c+heat, and fix a speaker on the left side. I'm also wondering what one part is, its a weird containerish thing situated under the hood at the very front right-hand corner. Its attached to the air intake, and seems like it should attach to somewhere else via a port on the underside, but I can't find where. Any help is greatly appreciated. I'll try to post pics as soon as I can. This is my first Toyota, so this is kinda new for me.

that box you are referring to I believe is called a resonator. the hole on the other side goes nowhere. I will try to get a pic of mine tomorrow for you. BTW this is in the wrong section should be in the 86-95 section.

No biggie I still don't understand why it isn't 84-88 trucks anyway. 86-95 just doesn't make sense.

They are seperated by suspensions. So even though there 2nd gen pickups and 1st gen 4runners split between the 2, the questions are posted cleaner and easier to search by keep all sfa and all ifs in their own realm.

Lifts and gear questions would get confusing trying to figure out if the were one or the other.

I dunno I just think same generation vehicles should be in the same section. They have a lot more in common then the 89-95 trucks. electrical, body, chassis, engine, drivetrain and wiring wise but I guess because the suspension is the same between 86-95 its better to lump them all into the same category.

And as far as gearing goes an 86 with a 22re and w-56 would need the same gearing to turn 35" tires as an 85 with the same combo.

Since i'm carbed too, i'll answer your question.

The tube that goes up into that is off the heat-shield on the exhaust manifold.
There is a little "stove pipe" type of deal that directs hot air from the exhaust into that tube when the engine is cold, to help it warm up.

I removed my exhaust manifold heat shield and found no noticeable effects when warming up the engine without it.

Sorry for hijacking your thread with my nonsense.

^Don't worry about it, its all good.

One thing I forgot to mention is that I need to replace the muffler. As of right now all the muffler is is a mass of swiss cheesed rust and a can of corn beef hash. Is there any special type of muffler I should get? I don't plan on using it for off-roading anytime in the near future, just getting back and forth to college.

Sorry I posted in the wrong section. I saw that it said 2nd gen. pick-ups under the section name, and clicked on it without looking at the section name.
