Removable Windshield

Does anyone happen to know about a renmovable windshield for our trucks? I'd like to be able to take it out when I hit the dirt.

Found out that 89's have a gasket style like the rear window. Anyone have any idea if the older windshield is the same as the 89-95 trucks.

our 85 was a "glue on" style. No gasket

They are different.

SOME '89-'91 trucks had gasket style windshields. I believe the low-end 2WD single cabs sported them. The cab has a different style lip, and the windshields are different.

FW623 - gasket type, '89-91 trucks
FW598 - glue-in type, '89-'95 trucks
FW471 - glue-in type, '84-'88 trucks
FW397 - gasket type, '79-'83 trucks

Looks like I am SOL

I have never ever seen a gasket type windshield on an 89 in America. Methinks no one else will either ;)

how about a lexan windshield. i just put one in my 88. i had a glass company cut the lexan and i installed it with 4 screws.

Travisfab 09-03-2008 09:56 PM

That's a good idea, how much did it run you?

I dont need it to be quiet, and I'd like to easily take it out when I hit the dirt, sounds like my best bet.

Dust is not an issue for you?

Travisfab 09-04-2008 06:01 AM

My interior is as bare bones as it gets, dust would be an issue if I was out just having a good time, thus the need for the windshield.

But my truck is designed to race and it and in those conditions, a glass windshield is just too likely to get shattered.

Didn't know you were racing it. Take it out, and save on the weight.

79-83's have the Gasket, trust me I know.. it was 68$ from Toyota and I put it in last year haha.

85 for the lexan and for them to cut it. i had to do a little truing of their cutting when i installed it. i also paid carquest $17 for a ribbon seal to keep it somewhat leak free. then i put a sheet metal screw in each corner to hold it in. if you wanted to take it out i wouldn't bother with the ribbon seal as its sticky and messy. it's much lighter than glass, i'd say about 20 pounds. i bought the 1/4" lexan but they also offered it in 1/8" which would be lighter.

Travisfab 09-07-2008 09:04 AM

Lexan it is.

grant526 09-07-2008 09:29 AM

If you go lexan, it's bullet proof! You don't need to worry about taking it out. Unless it's for weight control.
Your racing class doesn't require a windshield?? Weird!
If you run the 1/4" you will be that much more protected from rock and debris off the truck that may be infront of you at some point. Although, I know your plan is to be way out in the lead! :) lol

Good Luck! I was just asking someone else about lexan for these trucks last week. He hadn't heard of it.
