Radiator question
 

Hi all,
I just purchased a new radiator for my '84 SR5 x-cab and found it had a tranny cooler. Anyone see any issue with running this radiator even though I have a manual transmission? Thanks in advance!

Although the tranny cooler is integrated into the radiator, an automatic transmission uses transmission fluid and an engine cooling system uses antifreeze... I can't imagine a world where the two ever get to kiss each other. THat'd be a depressing sight!

Worst case scenario is you're losing cooling-surface area and you won't be utilizing your radiator to its maximum capacity. I'd opt for trying to return it for a manual trans one... unless you wanna attempt to use the trans cooler for something else.

Thanks for the replies, I didn't think it would be an issue. I bought it off radiator.com and I don't remember even seeing a manual trans radiator offered. Same thing at radiatorbarn.com. Maybe I missed something, I don't know.

those 2 ports on the bottom are for the automatic transmission only. no issues and not involved if it's a manual tansmission. you can even remove the brass fittings if they are in the way like they were on our 88 4runner 5-speed.

and no, you won't lose a coolant either. no coolant goes through there, just transmission fluid.

Cool, well I plugged a clear hose over the top of the 2 brass fittings just incase, as I didn't know what flowed through there!

The sites I looked on for radiators only sold Auto ones, but it fits the 22R manual just fine..

I had that "issue" when I bought a radiator from NAPA. I was worried as well but it seems that aftermarket companies make the radiators same for both manuals and autos to cut down on production costs and ease of production.

Got the two row rad installed along with an electric fan conversion and everything worked out great. The only issue I had was with the water pump pulley. I reinstalled the nuts that held held the fan clutch on, but the threaded portion of the studs wouldn't allow the nut(s) to hold the water pump pulley in place. Three washers under each nut fixed that though. I'm very happy with the fan as it moves a lot of air. Thanks for everyone's input, I really appreciate it.
