project update (pics)
Some of you may remember I was just starting a project about 1.5 months ago.
here's an update- frame- 84 4runner/22r cab- 85 1ton 2wd long bed(efi) specs- 6" custom rear spring pack 3" tuff country front spring pack downey shackles 4:11 (for now) spool front/rear rancho 5k's 33x12.5x15 Mickey Thompson baja claw radials 15x8 street lock steels frame bobbed 8" I did most of the work alone, so it was a bit tough, but it's paying off now. I had to slide the rear cab mounts back 7" to fit the truck cab. Looks good, nice and clean, are you putting a flatbed on? How does it flex is the big question. More info on the custom pack please.
My only compaints, just tell me to ˟˟˟˟ if you don't want to know are: :laugh: The rear shackle angle is not good, it is too close to verticle IMO You could solve that by moving the shackle hangers towards the cab a bit, the front appears to have the same problem although it is tough to see. I think the ride and flex would be better that way. Any plans for hi-steer? If you plan to wheel it hard keep an eye on those stock front hangers. |

how hard is it to do a frame swap? im thinkin of doing one myself.

the truck flexs very well the way it is, it was driven for a while on the current suspension with the original 4runner body until it became to riddled with rust holes to fix... the rear springs are stock, re-arched 6". (that was done by the previous owner, friend of mine) the shackle mounts have been moved forward by him 3" already, before I bought the rolling chassis. I have plans to get allpro johnny joints anyway, but funds won't allow it yet. but that will give me a chance to put them where I want to. the bed is undecided right now. I have the bed from the donor, and it's rust free.. but it's a long bed, so i'd have to drill the head board of it and move it closer the the tire, as well as bob the rear half. that seems like a ton of work compared to a tube/rockcrawling bed that I had originally planned. time will tell though :great: |

there are some small differences, like the cab mounts, the fact that I went from efi to carb, etc... btw- I'm using the 4runner wiring harness. I will be starting work on the front bumper this week, so more pics will follow. The interior is all gray SR5 4runner. buckets, carpet, dash, with altimeter, tiltmeter, etc. I'm also doing a Solid Ax swap on a 87 SR5 Turbo, so i'm a bit busy :welder: |
did you rhino line the entire engine bay? if so, how will that hold up to the engine heat?

if i do the frame swawp im definitly doing a SAS while everything is in the open.

While you have you bed off the rear I reccomend relocating your rear shocks to more of this position ||. It'll be easier now and then if you go the flatbed route you can work it around the shock mounts & possibly brace the mounts into the bed. Just my .02
Looks good so far with the amount of time & effort your putting into it I'd deffnently make sure you clean up everything & keep doing the real clean work shown above. Props on that :cheers: |
Update
update, got a couple old Marine Corp gas cans from a friend and restored one of them(going to put both of them in the bed eventually).

I think I'm going to make a front bumper.. Looking good! I'm assuming you have a k5 as well? Good trucks, my brother was a member of ck5 for many years until he recently sold his blazer.

I agree, this seems like an awesome project. I really like the way your truck looks; nice and clean. What kind of tires and wheels are those on the 4Runner (size as well please) ;-)
