Prices for Early Toyota 4x4s Taking Off?

I was looking for an early Ford Bronco for a friend who expressed interest. Original or restored examples are running about $20,000 - $40,000! So I took a quick look at carsforsale.com for first generation 4runners and saw that out of nine vehicles for sale at least six were priced over $10,000! Two are asking more than $15,000. I also follow salvage auctions and have noticed that people are actually bidding thousands of dollars for rust free early Toyota 4 x 4s. In some cases the vehicles have body damage and almost always have salvage titles.

I think I am pretty happy that I have a 1989 4runner.

Awesome! Good to know.
Not bad at all... https://www.carsforsale.com/1986-toy...r-sale-C106609
Sorry... I notice that the second-gen isn't valued so well, but that's understandable, especially with the 3.0.

Thanks for putting up the link. I looked again and I noticed that there's one asking $29,000! I hope this leads to more restoration parts for these vehicles. I would love to see a source of steel quarter panels and reproduction dash pads come into existence. toyotafiberglass.com up in Canada should be doing good business for some time to come if he wants to.

I am glad. It just means we can buy them before they start to go up! At the salvage auctions, I am seeing third generation 4runners going for $800 - $1000 just because they have a little bumper damage. They mostly have higher mileage, like around 200k miles, but if they are rust free, then maybe the miles don't matter that much.
