My Yota is not starting, help!!!!!!
Heres my situation, I have a 85 toyota pick up and she wont start, this is a list of what ive done already:
Changed battery changed starter replaced battery cables replaced distibutor cap and rotor tried jumping it cleaned the grounds (all i think) my fuses are fine I turn the key and all I get is a clicking sound when i jump it the clicking sound gets more rapid, at times the fuse box makes a vibrating sound on its own, seems like somethings loose, I really need help guys I havent taken her out the driveway in about 5 months (its torture) |
sounds like mabey the starter. i cant really tell you much more though, and make sure all your connections are tight after you cleaned them.

Assuming the Starter and Battery youve put in are Good.... I would probably say the problem is in your wiring or ign switch itself.
Try: Jumping at the starter, from hot to the switch side, if the engine turns (cranks) youll know the batt, starter, cables, are ok. Be sure to do this in Neutral, wheels chocked... |
i tried that and everything worked fine, however the truck still didnt start soI started to brainstorm! I followed every wire and looked for any suspicious cuts, rips etc...all the wires also came out to be ok, so it had to be a ground.
Since the motor on toyotas sit on rubber pads theres no real electric power you can send to see if the grounds are ok, so what i did was clamped the negative side of my jumper cables to a spot under the truck were the metal is touching the block, if the truck turns on then the problem is my ground, and can you believe it the actually worked ,i turned the key and she started right up!! |
Run a heavy ground wire from the battery to the engine block, and then ground the frame and body. i did this to my 4Runner and it makes a noticable difference.
