1985 4runner with 32k miles... geez. I thought I found a gem last year when I got a 98' with 11k miles. I remember feeling the same way that you did when I saw the mileage in the paper. The phone call, "I see your ad for the 4runner. You mean 110k miles, right?". Great find my friend.

Thanks for all the compliments!

I cleaned up the engine today...got rid of the 1985 worthless alarm. Also shrowded that ungly yellow wire and the remaining ones for the kill switch and aux lights. Looks pretty good. Used a ton of zip ties to secure it all...

I bought some smoke destroyer stuff from Autozone. Loaded it on...probably wont work though. I'm also going to try the vinegar in a bowl trick tonight. I dont want to shake baking soda all over the truck and then attempt to vacuum it up...so if this doesnt work, I may take it in and get it done professionally.

Any suggestions on what to do to get the smell out of the manuals? They REAK...i can smell them 10 feet away

Other than that, truck is grrrreat! Already put 100 miles on it

I guess you could say I de-moded the truck

Wow...!

Sweet, my friend. Rare find.
Suggestion: Might want to dump the Die-Hard battery. The ones I've had were messy. I like the maintanance-free type. I think Delco makes an excellent battery. I run them in my Sea-Ray, and in my two Yota-trucks.

Me and my roommate couldnt beleive how clean it was. Add the fact that I bought it without even driving it (I had to)...it was a disaster waiting to happen. BUT, all is well so far. Ran a carfax on it and it has no record of rollbacks. YAY!

Wow,I felt like I was back in high school looking at those pics except that I was on the net looking at those pics.

I don't remember seeing Runners that nice even back in the '80s,most I saw were more the base models.

Poboy is leaving out that the guy had a Grand National in storage too with 14K original miles that he just sold for 27K. He's really just pulling all of your chains. It has 232K on it and just got out of the body shop after it was rolled over. Come on, tell the truth now...

That's what I was going to say, they make an "automotive" scent febreeze for cars. Not as good as ozone but cheaper and easier. If you so much as scratch that thing, I will fly down there and whoop you myself bwayh!

PoBoy, have you considered contacting toyota? Maybe they'd want to buy it for some very nice $$$ as a show piece. That is, if you're going to get rid of it.

be prepared for the growing pains of a car that has sat that much for so long. A friend of mine bought a Gran National last fall that was parked for pretty much two years, was driven very little because it wasn't registered. anyway, be prepared for lots of routine maintenance, seals and gaskets tend to deteriorate when they just sit like that, but it will all be worth it! That thing is incredible!

My 4runner smelled at first when I bought it. At first I cleand the entire interior with a carpet cleaner and sprayed ferbreez all over but the only thing that really worked was time. Just let it air out and it will probably smell fine in about 6 months.

heck, just tell them that you will let them make commercials with it for a *ahem* "Nominal" fee. I can see it now...........
We changed the way SUVs were done forever when we made the 4runner (insert cool pictures of PoBoy's rig), and now we are doing it again, with the all new 2004 toyota 4runner (insert pics of new runner)
Toyota: Getting the feeling right for over 20 years.......

Niccccce Rig!!!!

Do not sell. Way too nice!!! Do loose the Die Hard and the red wires on the battery terminal. Run them from the fuse box or tap into another wire. Hate to see her burn.

Keep her clean. NO OFF ROADING.

CONGRATS

Great find!!! I searched for over 6 months to find my 1st gen. in excellent shape. A mild OME lift with 31's BFG's (stock wheels) and a gear change would be all I would do to that Cherry. Maybe a nice set of Hella fog's on the factory bumper. Enjoy the ride.

About the smell... Have you tried an ionizer?

When we stayed at the Venetian Hotel in Las Vegas, our room STUNK of cigarettes. I complained, and they brought in an ionizer for an hour. We couldn't be in the room, but when we came back there was NO odor. NO frilly freshener smell either. Even the drapes and magazines lost their odor.

Give one of those a try..Maybe you can borrow one from a hotel?
