Gauge Pod Install
 

I just finished installing my gauge pod from jeff mosk so I thought I would post up some pictures and install tips for other people. I ended up installing a electrical temp gauge and air/fuel gauge from autometer. I will install a vacuum gauge later in the empty top pod. For the temp gauge I installed the sender in a blocked off port next to the factory gauge sender, on my 85 there is a pipe plug there. You will also need a adapter, the size of the port is 16x1.5mm most autoparts stores have these I used the equuis adapters part number 6848 it also includes the adapter for oil pressure if you want to install that gauge. I screwed the sender as far as I could into the adapter so that the probe sticks into as much coolant as possible, this is important for a accurate reading. For power (IGN Hot) I tapped the defogger switch with T-Taps and then grounded at the fuse panel. Next is the air/fuel gauge for power I did the same taped off the defogger switch. The sensor wire can be plugged into the single wire test plug as shown in the picture. The ground is a little more tricky when I first hooked this up I just grounded at the fuse panel (WRONG DO NOT DO THIS) it will give you false readings, then I grounded straight to the battery (DONT DO THIS EITHER) you want to ground to the engine near the sensor. Something I found out was when the engine was cold and the ignition was ON the O2 sensor would show 150mv so if you want to know where to hook up your ground turn your ignition on set voltmeter to low scale hook red lead to test plug and black lead to the 02 sensor bolts, this tells you what the o2 sensor puts out now just move the black lead untill you find a ground with the same reading usually the block or head. When I checked the neg side of the battery or any body ground I would get 165mv this would give me a false reading if I hooked the ground there. If anyone has any questions just let me know.

I ended up grounding the air/fuel gauge to the valve cover nut, I will move the ground to a new location later.

Great you can check everything at just a quick glance and the gauge pod doesnt obstruct your view anymore then usual.

Looks good! I really want to buy the 3 pod guage pillar from Jeff. Im still not 100% on all the guages I want to use though ;)

hey i have a 90 v6 pickup and want to install the air fuel gauge but my hanes maunal tells me nothing that I can find, which wires are they and also have a oil time gauge where in the block do i but the threaded thermeter? I looked at your but am unsure if that would be the same on a 90. also where did you t the vacuum gauge or where do you.. cheers

i am still wanting to know which is the low and the high wire on the O2 sensor on my 90 v6, I am installing a hydrogen kit and have a O2 sensor overrider that can adjust air fuel mixture since with hydrogen the engine burn cleaner and the O2 try to componsate for this by adding more fuel, is this the same wire that I hook the air fuel gauge up to?

you guys realize that an a/f gauge is just a light show unless its a wideband right?
