Front end damage, how to replace?

My fiance and I got a 1985 Toyota 4WD truck that had gotten into a front end collision. I don't have much experience with body work, but have access to a professional welder. I was just wondering what the options were for replacing the parts needed.

Below is pictures of what is damaged.

Ive seen trucks come back from worse...but If it was me..I'd part out.
She got hammered.

It's more of a winter project, so I have time lol. Would the best bet be to cut it out of both this truck and a donor and just weld it in?

HighLux Oct 21, 2012 06:05 PM

Donor truck is a must... innner/outer wheel well...core support...
is the frame bet as well?

KevinRandall Oct 21, 2012 06:07 PM

Frame is actually still perfect. it was a surprise

Edit:
What year of these trucks would be a good body donor?

I'd look for another 84-88 cab and drop it on your frame. If you're lucky, you'll find a deal on a decent cab sitting on a rotted frame.

^X2 It would be alot easier to do this. It's not just a weld and go. Not saying it can't be done, but you don't want it tracking down the road after all the work you did.

My truck was worse than this. I just hooked it to a tree and used a come along and now you cant even tell it was wrecked

I used a back hoe to pull the core out on mine after the PO ran it into a pole... Worked great! but my wheel wells werent damaged like that...

new core support and front clip.

that yota's not done yet if you don't want it to be.

How did that head light survive....

I replaced the core support on my 86 Runner. I just bolted it in. Makes pulling the drive train so much easier unless you have air conditioning. Have no plans of welding it back up either. I know a guy that has his this way for over 7 years and no problems.

Invest in a spot weld cutter. I got one from Harbor Freight for around $7. Makes life so much easier. Use a punch to make centering the spot weld cutter. It isnt as bad as you may think it is.

My neighbor cut a donor truck right at the axle centerline and spliced it in. Whole cab would have been easier, but the cab was rusted. If you can weld, it is not that bad of a job.

I had a 4runner that was in the same shape when i got it. It was pretty easy to replace the front clip, just find a donor truck that has a straight clip and drill the spot welds and then drill yours and weld the new clip on yours. it s easier than ya think

What is the end use of the truck going to be??

Unless your real anal about these things pull it as straight as you can straighten the inner fender as best you can hang a fender.

Drive another 150,000 miles.

The bent sheet metal is not going to effect the steering or getting a good alignment .As long as the frame is straight

You might get some vibrations but these can be found and eliminated ..

If you want this as a learning experience by all means remove the radiator support and the inner fender learn how to these things for fun.

I drove harder hit Toyotas then that home.
