Frames?

Are the 84-85 Truck and 4Runner Frames the same?

I am looking to build a nice offroad truck from the ground up.

How much you think a frame is worth???

Similar in most respects. Of course the body and cab/bed mount brackets are different.

I have a my 4runner right down to the frame, I can get ya a good pic to compare if someone can get u p/u frame pic. I think 4crawler is right, prolly the same except the body mounts

The plan:
I want to restore/upgrade my truck.
I have a 85 SR5 Pickup as a daily driver (5.29s, lifted). I want to buy a frame, restore and paint it, restore/beef up the extra axles I just bought (85 front, 95 v6 rear), buy a better lift kit and create a rolling chassis. Then I want to start transfering the drive train (being rebuilt in between extraction of old truck and installation in new) and the body (being restored and painted).

Just wanted to see if I needed to be real careful on the frame I buy :)

Sounds like you have the plan, that would an awesome route to take.
I would just make sure what ever frame you get is the same, which I am sure you know.
it would suck to get a frame home and find out it was for a long bed or ex cab when you needed a short bed frame:

I'm in the middle of a picku-to-4Runner conversion. Here are the differences:

There are 10 mounts total for a 4Runner body. The 4 that are placed furthest forward (radiator support, front footwell area) are the same (because up until this point, there are no differences between 4Runner and truck).

After that NOTHING fits. The pickup frame utilizes 2 extra mounts that can be hacked off (front of the bed). THe other mounts are just under a foot off, some mere inches. Height changes and linear placement changes.

Also the fuel tank brackets are different. The bolting areas where the fuel tank lip hits needs to be extended roughly 3". Not only did fuel tanks change (had to accomodate for rear seating area being lower than a truck bed) but they STILL had to lower it to the ground (bye bye ground clearance!).

Anyway, if you're still interested after all of that work (and it WILL NOT be a weekend project) then PM me and I can provide more details. I will be putting a build thread on in June.
