Anyone Have seats Redone?

My seats are shot. I wanna get them redone but they have to be kinda hard cause of my back is bad and that works best on long trips for me.
Has anyone gone to a shop and had theres redone? how much was the cost and did you have leather or cloth?
I would like leather but its hot in the summer. But i beat cloth seats. I have a seat cover but its not enough. Wont do it till the summer cause im going to fla for the next month or two. get away from the cold in ny. Thanks for any advice. Sharon

why not just take your seats with you to Florida? They have quite a bit of custom shops down there, and they could probably suggest what type of material to use for the same kind of weather you will have come summer time. Just take the seats apart.

Maybe try some kind of marine material, very durable for the abuse, can stand up to the sun(heat), and not to mention, easy to clean after o-road'in....... It may not be leather, but can look like it!

I re did a few sets now .. most people just go to the junk yard instead of restoring the originals .. so it just depends on your pocket book ?

I did some 4runner SR5 lumbar support seats .. stock fabric with just a few panels re done .. it was ~ $200.00 .. I'm currently doing some "custom" seats in my trekker .. (in my link) and there going to be about a grand ...

You're talking $1000 to do a set of toyota seats???? Is that using rare Italian leather???

Maybe it's $1K Canadian, Seems like a lot but a nice set of Corbeau seats or others run $350-$550 each while others like Recaro are over $1K each. Custom one-off seats that you did your own might to some be worth a grand. I take my truck camping and snowboarding a lot so I couldn't live w/ myself if one of my mates or my kids spilled/scuffed my newly reupholstered seats. I like the marine grade vinyl idea though.

you think $1K is bad, look at the prices for Katzkin Leather. And that's just the covers not the foam. Wet O'kole's are some really good covers, but again doesn't include the foam. Sounds like she wants to redo the entire seats and not just the covers.

as far as TIGHT FITTING seat covers go there.....i want some Neoprene seat covers, since they will fit tighter than any other, where can i get some? lol i find universal ones, but our seats are universal.....

xxxtreme22r 01-29-2011 11:09 AM

Wet O'kole $235 for the fronts alone. :D

holy crap....lol i was thinkin like $150 maybe....

I put a set of the W/O covers on my '85 and they really make a nice improvement in the seating comfort. The tight fit of the neoprene really firms up the old cushions and you can get the covers with the inflatable lumbar support for added comfort. They made my old SR5 seats feel like new.

I wanted the wet okoles, but a set of trd covers popped up in craigslist for 100 bucks and they threw in floor mats. Really thick, great quality, and easier to find used then the w/o's

Plus it does not cover the back of the seat, so I didn't have to cut anything to bs able to use my lumbar controls.

For $1000 you better be getting the "tuck and roll" treatment. My wife's Uncle has a nice collection of 55 chevies. From totally stock to totally restored. His cherished restomod '55 has been in Hot Rod among other rodders mags through the years, and has won it's fair share of car shows. He only has $7000 in the ENTIRE interior. That includes custom carpet (front/rear/trunk) and high $$ leather wrapped in just about any place you could put it. He claims it's the interior that draws the attention to the vehicle and I completely agree.

Bottom line, the sky is the limit when you are talking custom work, BUT shopping around will go a long way. What shop A is charging to refoam and wrap a set of buckets may be 1/2 the price as shop B. If you sat in a set of "katzkin??" seat covers and my wife's Uncle's I highly doubt you would be able to tell the difference. Just my two sheckles!

Thanks for the replies. I really need to redo the seats since they are basically distroyed. But i may go to the junkyard and see if i can find some decent ones. I asked already and they all want about 100 a piece for seats at the junkyard. So if i can find a shop thats not too much i may just redo my seats. If i can find the foam i may redo hem myself. With deer leather. Wont be a professional job but will be so much better then what i have now. A seat cover wont work as the foam is really bad also. Thank you for your replies. Sharon
