85 Rearend Help
I have been out of the Toy game for a few years. I am putting my 85 back together. I just got thru putting the rearend back together. I have a Detroit Locker with 5.71 gears. I can't remember what kind of lubricant I need to run. Would I be better off to use synthetic or the regular stuff we all have run for years? What weight do I need? I am replacing all the brake hardware. Is there anywhere I can buy a COMPLETE brake hardware kit, without having to buy separate pieces from Toyota? I found the spring kits at Oreilly's but not any of the hardware. Toyota told me I would have to buy all the other pieces separately.
On the matter of the front end. I have to buy a set of gears for the front. I have always in the past bought my gears from Reider Racing. I have had great service with their gears. Who has the best gears for the best price this day & time? I will not use Richmond gears, too soft a steel, or at least it used to be. Thanks for any help you guys can offer. |
Hmm 22 views and no help.

Welcome to Yotatech! :D
I just run 75 90 Royal Purple in my diffs, tcases and tranny. Rear brakes I just get stuff from my local aftermarket place that I always go. I don't have 5.71s but everything else and a lot more. :hillbill: Smart move getting back to your Toyota! :guitar: |

Thanks Guys.I will post some pics of my ride as soon as I get it back together. The brake parts I am looking for, don't seem to be available after-market, or at least in S GA anyway. I guess I will have to get that stuff from Toyota. Thanks

What brake stuff are you having a hard time finding? There's a basic hardware kit (combi kit) which consists of springs, pins and a couple of retaining clips and an adjuster kit.
Wheel cylinders are sold separately as well as drums. You might find some kit with all of these but its overkill for most applications. |
Napa has kits with all the drum brake hardware. I wasn't impressed with the quality and fit of the pieces, so I ended up re-using some of the Toyota stuff.
