22R engine swap (the easyest)

Hey guys,
I just crapped my 22R engine in my 1984 Toyota truck 4x4 and looking for the cheapest engine replacement all together.
22R replacement engines are expensive and give me your experiences on this subject.

It all depends on what resources you have available - I did my 7MGE swap for less than 1G, but I was collecting parts from the local pick-a-part for 6 months. 4.3L cheby swaps, I've heard, are also pretty simple but can get expensive quick if you can't find a good used engine / trans or if you can't do all of the work yourself.

Unless you're hell bent on a swap, find another 22R from a junkyard - preferably one where the truck was smashed (engine was obviously running when it got hit) or one that comes with a bit of a warranty from the junkyard (usually 90 days is pretty good)

x2 on what corax said. My buddy recently got a 22R for $600 from the local junkyard... but hes got connections. lol. Its run good for him.

sometimes you can find a running truck for what the junkyard will charge, i blew my 22r and picked up a running and driving two wheel drive yota for 500 bucks and robbed a bunch of stuff from it and the motor still runs great in my truck and i got to scrap the parts truck when i was done and made a couple hundred back. two motors out and one back in and running in 1 day... thats your best bet

Are there any engines (other than the 22r) that will hook right up to a stock 5 speed trans on my '84?
