20r/22r Hybrid, Anyone with a lot of experience in this?

Vehicle is an 84 4runner

So I've got a 20r/22r hybrid running in my truck now. It has a 32/36weber in it with a fuel regulator, running a 270's cam (not sure exactly, didn't build the motor), not sure of the pistons, or the valves. It has a doug thorley ceramic header, high flow mufler with 2.5" all the way with no cats. It has been completely desmogged as well.

I am looking at rebuilding a lot of the motor with forged higher compression pistons, oversized valves, isky springs, valves, and cam, with an adjustable cam gear, dual side draft carbs, and port and polished head.

Does anyone here have a lot of experience in building the hybrid motors?

My first question above all else would be, is it worth the extra time and money to do what I want or would it be better spend on an entirely different engine (either diesel and/or more displacement)? If it's a different engine then I think I'll just tune this one up with what I have and make do while I research a different engine. As it sits now, I'm not too impressed with it.

I wont do it again !!

i spent about 4 grand on my hi-brid many years ago .. overall .. just kept dumping cash into it , to get more power ..

i ended up with about 150HP , and a very strong engine , with lots of torque ..

on my trekker .. i spent about 3 grand on a 3.4L , with a supercharger .. installed with just under 300HP

That's what I'm thinking at this point. I was thinking of the additional costs to get the motor to pretty much its max w/o EFI and turbo and I still don't think I'd be completely satisfied with it. I'm thinking I'll throw my 38 weber I have on it, tune it up so it runs well, and go with an alternate engine. I love the truck and the reliability in every aspect. Just need something with a little more hp for those hills and cruising speed on the freeway. I use the truck for everything, so it would be nice.

What kind of mileage are you getting with the 3.4 setup? I was considering going turbo diesel for the added efficiency, but need to research that one more. The 3.4 is probably my first gasoline choice. I would think it would get 16-20 mpg all around.
