1985 Pickup 2LT blew a hole in the cylinder block

First time poster here.

While driving around 60mph last night the engine developed a knocking sound and hoping I would be able to reach an exit I tried to keep going. About a mile later it shut off and began smoking. Had to get it towed from the side of I95 around Wilmington Delaware.

Looked at it this morning with a friend and discovered this large hole in the block. I think this 2LT can punch out for the last time. Aside from a direct replacement of 2LT or 2LTE... what would be a reasonable route to go with doing a newer Toyota diesel swap?

Anyone know any mechanics between philly and DC who are knowledgeable on this situation?

TIA!

Depending on where and how extensive it got damaged it may be possible to repair the block. From the pic, the hole doesn't look all that large. Were you able to retrieve the piece that came off? It's that or get another engine off of Ebay or convert it to gasoline 22r or 3rd choice sell the truck as is.. And by the way, that truck looks too nice for an upper eastern state

Thanks for the reply. It was not originally an east coast vehicle, I believe it was a gopher for a mining company in Idaho for most of its life. The paint is relatively new and I don't drive it when the roads are treated.

The chunk is probably getting kicked around I95. It want to keep it diesel. I've made some progress on decision making. Probably going to swap in a 1KZ-TE and change to mech pump.

If anyone has made mounts for this, id love to know about that.
