1985 4 runner

Hey guys !!!

I bought myself a 1985 4 runner that is in good shape - FINALLY !!!
I've been tweaking the little things and I have it running pretty good.

An annoying thing to me is that I can't drive this thing with the rear window down. Exhaust fumes roll in through the rear window. My 2nd generation has the spoiler / air dam thing above the rear window - was one ever available for the 1st generation ?

Anybody have a 2nd generation that they are parting ? I would modify the spoiler to fit on my 85.

My dogs are in jeopardy back there - HURRY !!!!

Before it starts - the timing is right and the TPS has been adjusted - I am not running rich. Exhaust pipe exits behind the drivers side rear tire to the side. No holes in the exhaust either.

:D

I think you can drill one of those spoilers into the fiberglass, but what good would that do keeping exaust coming from below out. Just don't roll it all the way down.

BTW, are you coming to tellico in august?

I believe that on trucks without a rear spoiler, you have a vacuum which sucks stuff into the window. Kind of the same principle as following semi's closely to save gas.

What the rear spoiler does is take some of the air flowing over the roof of the car and divert it to flow down the tailgate, which helps a little, more at higher speeds.

Congrats on your purchase!! The roll down window feature is nice on all the 4runners, but I have given up on driving with it down. Way to much fumes while crusin. For my dogs I just open up the side windows and let them pop thier heads out. Otherwise I take the top off. Look forward to seeing if that spoiler works out.

I found a spoiler and the mounts from a 2nd generation, should be here next week. $60.00 shipped.
I'll modify the mounts to fit the 1st gen hardtop and then mount it to the fiberglass top using well nuts. no leaks that way.

Everything is a work in progress ! I'll get some pictures of the 85 posted.
I sent them in an e-mail to Wabbit - maybe I can find them again.

It may be easier just to take new ones tommorrow. We got some much needed rain today - I was glad to see it.

Congrats Doc, can't wait to see you again on the trails!

Thanks Mr. Ryker ( maybe spelled wrong )

Trail time equals GOOD times - You move yet ? I know that you were headed towards Willmington. Mikey and Will are already there.

Willmington is one of my favorite places !!!

not yet, I had kicked around the idea of Mississippi or Louisiana, but I just got back & it's too far from the family. I may head up to Wilmington soon to check it out.

Get some pics of that thing up!
