1984 toyota axle questions???
I plan on building up my 84 pickup axles. Im looking at getting 5.29s or 5.71s and a spool in the front and lockright in the rear, or spools in both axles. I plan on running 36 or 38 swampers.
My question is how have your axles held up with lockers and 38's? Is there anything you would recommend i do, or dont do? Any suggestions? |
Probably want to upgrade the birfields and possibly axle shafts:

5.71s '84 lockrighted front/'95 V6 welded rear 39x15.5 with a V6 in a '85 - broke front and rear gears and a lockright within a year
Everyone told me when I ordered my 5.71s I was asking for problems but the 3 of us that are running them the only one with issues is the one listed above. That was 2 years ago, he has not had any other issues after that well with gears and axles |
OK. Ill probably go with the 5.29's. I dont know if ill get lockrites or spools. I hear the lockrights are hard on the axle splines and side gears. Anybody else have a problem with your lockrite.
I forgot to mention that the axles are going under a suzuki samurai. So theyll have about half the weight of a toyota on them and a little less than 50hp turning them. Im just looking for some advice from people that know these parts and wheel with them. Because im about to spend a decent amount of money on these axles and want to build them right, with the right parts. |
