Wrecked my truck

Hey guys, I was involved in a accident last night and my 82 long bed 4wd may be totalled. I took some quick pics so you pros could tell me what you think.

If they say they are totalling it, I would then talk to them about options for buying it back as is, how does that usually work?

this trucks bed is solid! it has a little rust at the seam and inside the bed behind the wells have a small strip of rust thru but other then that it is very solid.
the interior is MINT. unmolested dash and door panels.

basically, what do you think these parts would go for by themselves and would anyone want to buy them in the event it is deemed a total loss?

If I did buy it back I really have no where to store it, that is the main problem.

here are some pics, basically under the hod the radiator is trashed, the fan and fan clutch are trashed, the distributor broke off the block, the fins of the alternator bent over and that is where the damage stopped, the air intake and hoses are bent as you can see also. the frame and leafs and all that look untouched to me, its all above that.

well, that is really hard for me to post and look at, but what do you guys think?

MN is a fair value state and my ins agent said they determine value based off of comparables, i.e. auto trader, cars.com car soup etc etc.

due to the rare nature though, comparibles are very hard to come by as you guys know! this truck has a real 53,900 orig. miles on it!

if any of you guys can post comparibles to help me out it would be awesome!

I will post a interior shot.

like I said, this interior is mint, and the truck its self is very solid.

Wow that thing is CLEAN! I would put a new front clip on it and save it

kiyobrown 02-05-2010 05:11 PM

No doubt save it. Those pics make me sad. That's a great example of a clean 1st gen. Time to find a cheap storage unit. Or start scamming on your buddies for a parking spot. You'll always miss it.

95yoda 02-05-2010 05:12 PM

well I am not sure I have the final say if they total it, wonder what the damage sits at right now? any body guys in here? I knw stuff adds up really quick.

what do yuo guys think about how the dist. broke off? is that an easy fix?

RMA 02-05-2010 05:14 PM

Dude .. it is clean im sure alot of people here would want that interior . I dont see any cracks on the dash ...

To bad you dont have anywhere to park it , and part it out ..

SpecialScottie 02-05-2010 05:23 PM

If you did decide to part it out im sure you could get top dollar for all of those interior parts

95yoda 02-05-2010 05:28 PM

yeah the dash is uncracked, not even where the lil speaker holes or w/e is!

What do those pieces usualy go for in that condition?

gmack192 02-05-2010 05:30 PM

I wrecked a 79 I had. The insurance rep wanted to total it, I said NO! Raised a stink, I got to keep the truck, the insurance company gave me $850.00 to fix the truck. They said that was al the truck was worth. Long story/short. I bought the truck for $328.00, wrecked it, got $850.00 from the insurance, fixed it for $100.00. came out $422.00 ahead of the game.

I say keep the truck and fix it when you can, because you will never be able to replace it. They don't build them anymore. Just my opinion.

if you let that go, i'll shoot you.

yeah I have a feeling the dollar amounts im dealing with will be a lot more, so harder to deal with. I wish it was that low though!

why did someone change the title of the thread?

x2. then i pry that mint 1st gen from your cold hands!!!! if they total it, which they probably will buy it back. youll hate yourself if you dont. dont part that beauty out

MaK92-4RnR 02-05-2010 05:46 PM

have you ever noticed your horn button is upside down?

SigEp4Runner 02-05-2010 05:50 PM

I totaled my 89 10 years ago and the insurance let me buy it back in about the same shape as yours is for 200. Put it out for sale and had a guy buy it from me for 500, he fixed it and I saw it on one of the streets by my house for 1500 about a month later. There are a lot of people out there that would probably buy your rig either for parts or to fix and sell. Mine was drivable after the wreck, it just overheated because the radiator was toast and the alignment was way off because mine was hit in the front of the passenger side. I then bought an escort for 300, drove it for 2 years, got hit, insurance totaled it and gave me 1500, bought it back for 300 and sold it to my girlfriends sister for 350 and she has been driving it for about 4 years now.

HOLY CRAP Batman, that is the cleanest interior of a first gen I have seen in a long time. Buy it back, they will let you. I bought back my 93 after I totaled it. They gave me about 9,000 for the truck and wanted 1,000 to buy it back. I had about 3 times that into it. I pulled all the stuff off of it I wanted and sold the rest of the truck for 2,000. The only reason I didn't rebuild it was because the cab was crushed, the bed was shot, and the interior filled with water from the ditch it was laying in upside down in. I will tell you that she was built to go, but mostly saw street use, and she was so clean you could eat off of just about any part of her and have less of a chance getting somthing in your food then you would by eating off of a plate at the dinner table. I miss her so much, and would give my left.... To get her back. If you don't buy it back, you will regrete it. As a matter of fact if you don't want it, find out how much they want to buy it back, I would be interested. If nothing else make somebody else a good deal rather then the insurance company make money on it. Let me know

Terrys87 02-06-2010 01:27 AM

Insurance will total it just for year and core support. Pull the core support out, replace hood and radiator and you could have it on the road again. The rest is cosmetics that you can work along the way. I worked in body shops before and those are actually easy fixs. There are plenty of aftermarket, craigslist, salvage for parts if you just take a little time. You are not going to make it any worse.

Gov't Mule 02-06-2010 07:01 AM

Yeah, it looks way worse than it really is....that thing is very "savable". My son has an 89 that looked JUST like that when he wrecked it and we put it back on the road for less than 300 bucks. That interior is BEAUTIFUL!

95yoda 02-06-2010 09:15 AM

Yeah I will find out more on monday when they come look at it, I will keep you guys posted on what I hear. thanks

Thelast83inNJ 02-06-2010 09:15 AM

This truck is very repairable. 95yoda you must fix it. You must have more friends than me who can help and/or store untill money,weather,and/or skill improves. These things aren't coming back. My wife goes before the truck goes. Fix it. Please.
