Vin info

Ok, I have in my possession a 1980, it has a tach and the tricked out gauges, might be an sr5, not sure. Has an L43 tranny(4spd?) and the rest of the drivetrain on the plate is G102(transfer case?) Also, whats the easiest way to figure out what my front and rearend ratios are? Any help or advice is much appreciated

My yota is a 1980 as well. I dont think they started the SR5 package until 83, but I may be wrong with that. Mine is all stock except for the new 22/20r hybrid I just built and put in it. Unless someone has already done a cluster swap, the stock 80's did come with a tach, and I "THINK" 4.10:1 gear ratio in the axles. It should be a 4 spd as well, and a 20r engine.

80 4X4's with 4 speeds came factory with 3:90 gears ..

Im just very curious because i have one 80 model with a 22r long block and 20r head, screamin little thing. My second 80 model is as far as i know, stock. If it has the same gearing, then the motor is abot to pop. No power at all. The one with the crummy engine has oil press, volt meter and tach, the other has none of the amenities. Not sure if some some swapping happened on the one with the lame engine or not, it looks as though it has stock ac though.....? Not really sure what was standard or what back then

Thanks slacker, I couldnt remember off the top of my head.

Is the one with lack of power in need of a clutch? What exactly is it doing?

22R'S were NOT factory in 80 .. 20R was the stock engine ..

a very popular mod for this year was droping the 22r block under the top the stock head (assy) .. I did this back in the day myself ... I would think this is what you have ..

Agreed, it sounds like someone may have already built a hyrbid for you.

well when i got it, the carb and manifold made it run like a lawn mower. Now that it has a new weber 32/36 and a hedman header and fresh exhaust. the engin sounds pretty strong, no knocks or ticks. The problem is when you're trying to accelerate, the truck is on 33's perhaps part of the problem? My other 80 is on 32's and it hauls. Im visualizing a rebuild on the engine and tranny coming, this truck was rigged something awful.
