truck runs fine then stalls

Ok my 82 22r has had a lot of work done since I've got it, I have done a complete tune up and even bought a new weber 32/36. All lines have been changed even have the lc pro spiral adapter plate to stop the vacuum leak. Well after all that was done it has been running like a dream no missing no stalling just purring like she should. Well got up thus morning for work went and started it to warm up while I get dressed like I do every morning got in it and headed down the road and was fine and come to the stop sign and it bla bla bla stalls. So I start it back up and it has no problem starting right back up and runs fine until I come to a stop. So basically it starts great and drives great but when I let out the gas it dies. Mayb I can get some help from some of Yall as to what is the deal here

cman1 07-10-2013 05:39 PM

look for another vacuum leak, pcv hose, intake plugs etc....

catfish21 07-10-2013 05:47 PM

Well I'm thinking its not a vacuum leak because when I adjust the mixture screw it responds well and it runs perfectly fine until the gas is let out, Idk man I'm gonna plug at it and try to figure this out. I was doing some searching and read were people were saying it could be a fuel cut off solenoid but I don't know if my.weber has that or not the only wire going to it is the choke

catfish21 07-10-2013 05:51 PM

Ohh and I did just spray carb cleaner when I got home and I get very small hesitations when I spay near the base but nothing major but when I spray on the plugs installed on the intake it doesn't do anything right away but I guess when it settles in it almost dies. The PO had installed the plugs and I'm not sure if they are the right metal or what but I would think them plugs should be completely sealed.

cman1 07-10-2013 07:29 PM

yep, they should.pull each one and rtv em and re-install.then check again.

catfish21 07-11-2013 01:22 AM

Ok I'm gonna try it, any other thoughts just let me.know I'll post results

SPARKS89 07-11-2013 03:33 AM

Did you check for a vacuum leak in the brake booster?

catfish21 07-11-2013 04:01 AM

Yeah I sprayed all around and I've replaced all the hoses about a month ago

The hoses going to it are probably fine, but there's a diaphragm inside the booster that can go bad and cause a vacuum leak too. Let the truck idle and get to normal running temperature and them press down on the brake pedal. If the idle changes you probably have a bad diaphragm. That's my guess since you said it only happens when you're coming to a stop.

catfish21 07-11-2013 06:24 AM

Yeah I read some threads yesterday about it and I did some things to test I undid the booster hose and plugged it and it was fine I tried what you suggested while it was idling and it was fine. When I put it out of gear coasting to a stop it dies so it's nothing with the brakes. I need to figure this crap out cause it was running so good and it still does run good but the damn thing dies

You may have already seen this, but it sounds like people have had this problem in the past and it was the fuel cutoff solenoid.

catfish21 07-11-2013 04:41 PM

Ok a ran some seafoam and cleaned all the jets and the carb up good and went to work this morning and it ran perfect, well comin home the first red light I come to the it's acting up again. This is so confusing so now it's only doing it when it wants, I don't see how it could be a.vacuum leak if it's fine at one point and not the other. If anyone has had a similar problem give some info I'm getting aggravated about this

enigmaT120 07-12-2013 07:43 AM

My truck does that, but only until it's fully warm. Once fully warmed up mine will idle fine. I haven't solved it, so I can't help, but I'll sure keep reading this thread.

catfish21 07-12-2013 09:14 AM

I really need to get to the bottom of this

shacal13 07-12-2013 09:43 AM

i have a 1980 and have a the same problem and i havent been able to find a solution either.

catfish21 07-12-2013 09:59 AM

I'm a perfectionist and I need.this fixed mayb the coil or igniter I just don't know it's killing me that I,had it running so,good

catfish21 07-16-2013 04:48 PM

I was really hoping to get some responses of some similar problem some of the guys have had please if anyone has anything please share I can't take this anymore

catfish21 07-16-2013 04:50 PM

Does it sound like it could be a.coil or igniter doing that I mean it's like nothing wrong until you stop or let the clutch out its not the brake booster

enigmaT120 07-17-2013 07:24 AM

I've made my truck run better by fixing vacuum leaks; my worst was the brake booster hose, where it attaches to the intake manifold. I assume there are still some (or one?) leak that gets better when things warm up. Or something.

catfish21 07-17-2013 08:04 AM

I mean could my problem be vacuum leaks, the reason I don't think it is is because of how good it idles and runs its just when I take it out of gear. This blows my mind I really need some help

Killgore Trout 07-17-2013 09:07 AM

hmmm, could your timing be out of wack, those vac advance diaphragms love to go out,.....as far as vac leaks go,...when your truck is idling, does the idle go up or down if you try to choke it out by hand (cover the top of the carb only letting a little air through your fingers) i had the darnedest time finding a vac leak on mine, ended up being at the charcoal canister.
i also noticed a huge improvement after fixing a pretty bad exhaust leak, especially when dropping into the lower rpm range (like when coasting to a stop)
sorry youre havin such a rough time nailing it down, just thought id throw out some possibilities.

catfish21 07-17-2013 10:27 AM

Just redone my exhaust and no when I stArt my truck it runs perfect and drives perfect just when I'm stopping how do I test to see if my advance is bad

Killgore Trout 07-17-2013 10:40 AM

the vac diaphragm on the distributor should hold vac indefinitely, you can draw a vac using a hand operated vac pump with a gauge and watch for the vac to drop, or you can suck on the end of a piece of vac line and if it feels like youre able to suck air through,...you have a pin hole, each vac port should hold vac independently (assuming you have two some only have one) so you can test one at a time without plugging the other one.

Killgore Trout 07-17-2013 10:42 AM

if it is bad, i recommend getting just the vac unit, its like 60 bucks from lc, from toyota it is insanely expensive

catfish21 07-27-2013 06:41 PM

Ok well I'm still fighting this battle well when I pulled in from work today the truck didn't die but it was stumbling very bad and I heard something bubbling well my.gas tank was bubbling bad. Well I turned it off and start It right back up and like always it runs like a champ and idles fine and the gas tank wasn't bubbling so I'm really stumped and bout ready to bring to a mechanic if a fellow yota guy can't help thanks

catfish21 07-28-2013 02:45 PM

Any info ??

gillesdetrail 07-28-2013 04:59 PM

I don't know if it has been checked or said before but there is a little vent on top of the fuel tank, are you sure it is not clogged or blocked?

catfish21 07-28-2013 05:49 PM

No I havnt checked that do you think that could be the culprit and how do u go about checking that

gillesdetrail 07-29-2013 04:30 PM

Well to know if it is the culprit, when the truck starts to run like crap open the fuel cap. If you hear a sucking sound and it runs better, then that's your problem. You'll have to drop the tank or remove the bed to check that, it's a little vent on top of the fuel tank.

catfish21 07-29-2013 05:18 PM

I don't really hear it sucking but I can here bubbles for sure

catfish21 07-31-2013 06:35 PM

Well I just want to say I feel stupid but I changed my fuel filter this eavning and it is back to normal again o my tank must need cleaned very bad o changed the filter the last oil change so it didn't make it very far, I can't believe it made that big a difference but it's fixed for now and thanks for all the replies so maybe the others that was following alone change your filter and maybe think about getting your tank cleaned after 32 years of living I can imagine what's in there
