For Tall Owners of 1st Gens

Hi,

I'm nearly 6'4" and I recently drove a 2wd '81. My left knee would activate the turn signal when I let off the clutch! But I'm now tempted by a fair deal on a first gen standard cab 4x4 and it's hard to pass up. Anyone tall owners out there that can comment on the subject? Total PITA or tolerable?

This rig would be a grocery getter, stuff hauler, bump-around-towner, and trail beater. That is, no long road trips--not even commuting.

I'm 6'1". Drove a few regular cabs, not enough room. Held out for an 85 extended cab and don't regret it for a second. The seat goes too far back for me. Plus the storage space in the cab is great to have.

I'm 6'2" and I've driven these trucks my whole life...I literally grew up in these trucks (79-83), no extracab...plenty of room ;)

well, I'm going to take a look at it. The good news is that, even if it is too small, the girlfriend wants it--so I'll still get to tinker with it. I don't know when it became 'good news' that I could work on something I can't even drive:hillbill:

no matter what you end up with you'll be happy as long as it says toyota on the tailgate. Hitting the signal will be real handy for right hand turns! Plus your gf wants it, you lucky dog you. My last gf tried to convince me to sell my truck and get something more comfortable. Now I'm single and have new, comfortable seats with all the money I saved having her gone! But just to rub it in, I can tip the seat back and have a nap in a sunbeam! +1

I'm 6'7" and until recently drove a 88 yota reg cab 4x4 p/u. I just drove with my legs bowed out to the sides and did fine, lol.

I'm 6'3" and I fit in my 81 just fine. I did get some bucket seats and mount them low in the cab for more head room. My legs do get a little cramped on long drives, but I love the truck, so I just deal with it. Wouldn't hesitate to buy another.

Cramped on long drives? How many of you guys have had your right leg across the dash while your left foot is workin the pedals...;)

Hi I got a 1979 Toyota Pickup 4X4 4speed short bed, Im 6'2 and I never had a problem with my hight in my truck. I found out if you have bucket seats that it will give you a little bit more room than a bench seat.

More than 3 hours and it starts to feel small for me. Driven a single cab yota to Oregon (10 hour drive door to door) and it is doable.

2nd Gen cab longer than a 1st Gen....makes a difference

I'm 5'6"... one of the few situations where being a shorty is a good thing. I am travel sized, airline flights aren't that bad for me either.

I fell you pan. I am 6’1 and 300 Pluss and I am a tight fit in my 85 4runner

Oh and im a 38” waste not a fat 300 + just a little hefty. LOL

So if the 2nd gen is a lil longer, add my 3" over his 6'4" bout the same right? I also wonder if he has a beer gut like myself, and has any issues with "steering wheel belly rub":drink:
