Rough idle after exhaust fix

My ‘83 4WD Pickup has a 20r running a Weber 32/36 carb. It idled fairly smooth (for what it is) until I patched and exhaust leak yesterday. I used some Quicksteel to patch a leak in the exhaust line yesterday and let it cure overnight. Started it this morning and the idle is quite rough. Would this have created more backpressure that may cause the rough idle? Anyone familiar with the Weber 32/36 that would know what adjustment to make?

Patching a small exhaust leak should not change how the engine runs how big was the hole?

You wrote "It idled fairly smooth (for what it is)" - what does that mean? Was the engine/carb ever tuned or just bolted on?

That means that it idled just fine.

I’ve only had this truck for a couple months. The hole that was patched was a cracked weld so nothing major. I wouldn’t suspect patching a small would cause the rough idle but wanted to ask. It’s almost like it’s mosfiring now. Guess I need to dig further. Open to any suggestions.

Agreed, I doubt the repair would effect how it runs.

For us to help pics often help a lot - 1 pic = 1k words. Both sides of the engine bay would be a good start.

Then basics, pull the plugs (pics) and check them. Check plug wires too. Which fuel regulator and what is it set at?

Exactly where was this repair made?

If it was ahead of the muffler, that could be a sign that it's collapsed and your assumption of back pressure was right.

You can loosen the intermediate pipe from the exhaust manifold to check. If the problem is still there you are only out a new donut and maybe some exhaust hardware.

I would at least go through the normal 32/36 lean best idle tuning procedure.
Follow these instructions exactly: http://www.redlineweber.com/html/Tec...lean_best_.htm

Do you have a timing light? Check your timing.
