rolled my 82

So I rolled my first gen last night,:nopity: Probably wouldn't have happened if I had power steering, but I just let her go too far. I was cruisin down this rocky sandy hill at greenhorn and the steering wheel just took off to the left up this bank and over I went. Was not buckled in, could have been much worse.. Started no problem 3rd try, love the 4 bangers.
Im thinkin cab swap, 1st 2nd or 3rd gen single cab, or maybe an extra cab and shorten the bed. Anyone know what cabs bolt up and which ones might not? (obviously the xtra cab is going to have 2 extra body mounts)

that sucks dude, i say put another first gen cab on it

peow130 10-24-2011 10:18 AM

put another first gen cab on it, or put an 84-89 setup on it..
either way, one requires modification, the other doesnt.

maistroyoda 10-24-2011 10:52 AM

I also say put another first gen cab on. I've seen some now and then on craigs. It would be easier for sure.

Brando338 10-24-2011 10:54 AM

yeah if I can find a first gen cab thats really clean I will, but I know a buddy who wants to trade some stuff for a 2nd gen xtra cab that is really fresh and has a sunroof, with modifications, I think I can pull it off, it is heartbreaking to have one less "first gen" out there on the road but It will still be just in a different form. No way am I parting it out.
Oh yeah, its a long bed too so I could shorten the bed from the front to accomodate the Xtra cab.
Anybody out there who has swapped from single to extra cab feel free to comment. Thanks-

Good luck, you need to fab up new body mounts

shady4420 10-24-2011 12:47 PM

Dude that sucks! An X-cab would be cool and I don't think it would be too tough to add a couple body mounts so long as you can weld. Time for a roll cage though, good luck.

It's a shame to see a yellow Yota go down :( there aren't many of us...

Either way I say do the swap that is most convenient.

dropzone 10-24-2011 01:33 PM

that sucks...did you pick up the windshield, cans and other misc crap that fell out?

igotit 10-24-2011 03:45 PM

sad to read this, first gen cabs are hard to find....but i may beable to help.

i have a 81 cab,has a bad floor pan, rest of the cab is in good shape.good windshield ect.
pm me if your intrested.i could throw in the stuff needed for power steering for a lil more aswell.
im in south louisiana.

highonpottery 10-24-2011 03:58 PM

Dang man, that sucks. I'd go 1st gen and keep what you can salvage off your current cab and try to make a 4-door.

^x2. Just fuel for the fire since The Man has already taken away most of Greenhorn...

dsal_86Yota 10-24-2011 05:21 PM

That's sucks. Glade no major injury. Could do a pre 1st gen 4wd4runner cab. The mid 72-78 cab. They were only avaliable in 2wd, considered 2nd gen toyota truck. Or stick with 4wda 1st gen.

rebs4x4 10-24-2011 05:23 PM

OUCH that sucks

Brando338 10-24-2011 05:59 PM

Yeah Im hearing alot of First gens thanks igotit, but I think luisiana is a little too far from here I'd like to keep it Cali, as far as the windshield and that crap yeah I grabbed it. Does anyone know the smog legality, if it depends on the cab or the frame VIN? cuz It would be ideal to go presmog. 2wd.

igotit 10-24-2011 06:53 PM

no problem bro!
i removed the pics so your thread isnt cluttered up.
hope you get it sorted out.

skyhawk82 11-02-2011 07:24 AM

I think the job of verifying the VIN falls to a DMV official or police officer in California. And the only thing a smog tech checks is the registration, scans the bar-code, and then the VIN is in the machine. I do have a smogtech friend who i could ask about these things if you'd like.

I'm in Utah, there is a guy in Salt Lake that's advertising a first gen 4x4 for parts. His ad says it's mostly complete. his name is Josh 801 836-7232. I know it's a ways to go but there you are.
