Oh it's always hard on the internet. It seemed like a sidetrack and distraction to the thread, but that's only in my opinion. I'm just one among many here.

It's hard to say. All these improvement and modifications may have been spread out over time. 22R could have been added just a few years ago, or 20 years ago, or whenever. Or it could have all been done together, dually, 4x4 and engine. Who knows. 4x4 conversion could have been done right away, and dually added later. 4x4 conversion may have just happened 10 years ago (though it doesn't sound like it). 30+ years is a long time, and a lot can happen.

Depending on what kind of documentation comes with the truck, we might be able to figure out quite a bit of it. Or...not so much. Would be cool to learn the real history, though.

Yes! Just bought it last fall. Things stalled out a little, but are moving fast now. I figure I'll update the thread when I've really got something to show. I'm feeling a lot of pressure now, since it's camping season. So a lot of time & money will be going into it in the next month or so.

Didn't the OP say that the 22r is a recent addition and it comes with the 20r as well?

Tentative plans as of now are to do a frame up cleaning with the bed and cab off. Fix any damage. The body is not terrible- I have dealt with worse but I want to restore it to rust free, relatively straight, original configuration.

The bed is going to get bobbed a little bit and narrowed. Make it match the lines of the truck a bit more and make it fit down tight trails easier. The axles are going to get cleaned up, lockers are in the future for them. It needs rubber all around, debating on going to one super wide rear or keeping it dually.

End purpose is going to be a small hunting/camping rig that will serve as my workhorse while building my cabin in the back country.

Great! Yeah make sure you find out what axles you have before ordering any lockers. If you order lockers for a '78 Toyota, if they're even made, they won't fit your truck.
