Fuel Skid Plate
I've got the bed off my 1979 4x4 to do some frame rot repair. I've welded the patches in and am in the process of painting the frame with por15. I've got a question. Is there supposed to be more to the fuel tank skid plate? Or is this it? There are some dents in the bottom of the fuel tank (no leaks and no rust inside or out!!). Seems like it should have more coverage.

on the earlier years , the simple tin in the front of the fuel tank was it .. I'm sure this is the picture your trying to post .

Correct, I guess that's it. I think I'll make something a little more substantial....

The plate on my '83 covers the entire bottom of the fuel tank, and is bolted on by 3-4 bolts on either end. for a piece of sheet metal, it's pretty thick and robust. Perhaps you can retrofit one from a later truck?
