Oh no...t-case output is loose!!!
My t-case output is loose!
Is it as bad as I think it is?
Any chance you know the torque that should be applied to the main nut on this shaft?
I have to drive a hour tomorrow? Wouldja trust it?

I think the correct torque is only 90fp. Then staked.
Take the flange completely off and degrease the splined parts and coat them and the threads with locktite before reassembly.
Great time to change out the seal as well.
Common for the flanges to get loose on high mileage trucks.
Mine did. I retightened them. My bearings were still good.
Edit: My '83 FSM says 80 to 101fp.

Thanks guys, I just got under it and tightened the stake nut.
It was moving around in it's staked notch on the shaft. (I could wiggle it with my fingers)
I tightened it to 90 ft-lbs, re-staked the nut, and it seems good to go.
I do need to replace the seal though, it is throwing oil everywhere.
Members like you guys^^^ are what makes the forums great. I came in all panicked and convinced that my t-case was 'effed, and it turned out to not be that big of a deal.
thanks!

My T-case nut came loose too a while back. Like yours, it was floating around on the stake. It was an easy fix... just download the manual and go from there.
