Need some info on factory radios and what years are interchangeable

I have a factory AM/FM radio removed from a 1980 Toyota Pickup 2WD and was wondering if it would fit in my 1982 Toyota Pickup 4x4? I'm going to purchase a new '82-'83 dash piece from ebay since mine is cut for an aftermarket stereo. Planning on making a small tuffy style box in between the seats to mount the stereo in. I'm just not sure if the stereos were different from 79-81 and 82-83. Different is ok as long as the '80 stereo will fit into the factory '82 dash assembly.

I'm almost positive the radios are the same mounting wise. I put a bezel from a 79 into my 82 and the only thing different was the heater controls. I doubt the connectors will work however, IIRC they changed all the connectors in 82

Thanks!! I'm not planning on using the stereo so as long as it fits in the '82's dash I'm good to go. I'll make the tuffy style box and integrate an aftermarket stereo into that.

I have both in the garage, the 1980 center to center on the knobs measures 4 3/4, the 1982 measures 5 1/8. The heater control is separate on the 82 instead of being molded into the dash. I might have an extra 82 radio somewhere if needed.

How much are you looking to get for it? Doesn't matter if it's not working.

I'm looking for a stock radio for a 1982 4x4 SR5 Toyota truck. My son is trying to renovate his dad's truck. Any info or help would be greatly appreciated.

If you look at the shafts, maybe you can loosen the nut, and possibly slide them in/out to match the dash plate holes. A lot of radios have that feature for numerous applications.

The 1979-1981 trucks used a Fujitsu-Ten radio with a narrower shaft spacing. The 1982-3 trucks used a Matsu˟˟˟˟a (Panasonic) radio with a wider shaft spacing as well as a wider case. They are not really inter-changeable and wont fit quite right when mounting on the dash frame or around the plastic bezel. The 1982-83 radio seem to harder to find.

This is the radio you need for the '82. It is the Matsu˟˟˟˟a 86120-89118. Apparently two were sold on ebay recently.
