Need Help Solving my Distributor Install Problem

Hey guys. I have a 1979 pickup with the 20r. I recently replaced the head gasket and I'm on now to getting it timed and trying to get the Holley carb on it working properly. On installing the distributor, I've read and watched videos which are telling me 2 different things. One school of thought says to advance the crank to 0 degrees BTDC and then install the distributor and the other says to install the distributor at 8 degrees BTDC. Can anyone clear this up for me. I only have a FSM for an 83 which with the 22r says to install the distributor at 5 degrees.

Thanks!

Turn the crank to 8 degrees BTDC, then install the distributor so the rotor is facing straight up. When you insert the distributor the rotor will move itself into the #1 position. Then check it with a timing light. Carbed 20r's and 22r's are supposed to be set at 8 degrees BTDC.

yeah .. I'm on the other camp I guess ... O* BTDC , insert with the rotor @90* .. this will give you any adjustment you may need .. typically , although the book says 8* , I find 5-6* better ..
