need alternator help '79 toy: wiring using '85 22R alternator
hey guy new 2 the forum. I have got my hands on '79 toyota pickup 4wd for the first time and it has got me confused. someone took out the 20r motor and put a'85 22r in it.i need 2 know how to rewire the '85 alternator and their r some wires over by the battery that r not hook up correctly. the color of the wires r one big white one a black w/red stripe ared w/blue stripe and a black w/yellow stripe. i can hook them up 2 were the truck will crank but i don't if it right. any help will be appeciated very much thanks

hey guys back again. does anybody have anything i really need 2 get this truck fix before hunting season. i have got 2 have something 2 haul them beagles in. so somebody tell me something even if it's 2 say welcome 2 yotatech forums thanks.

You are not going to find a "how to" guide how to do this. You are going to have to look at the FSM for both vehicles and piece stuff together on your own.

I won't be much help, i'm in the same boat, well maybe not quite as my engine runs, but the wiring is a big ol bag of snakes. Here is the Factory Service Manual, i'm sure it has wiring diagrams.

it might also help if you let us know whether or not the guy replaced the wiring harness with the 22r or hacked at the 20r. But with something like this as the wabbit says, you are most likely gonna be on your own with this one.
putting up photos of questionable stuff might help as well.

thanks guys for the replies. seems like a nice place to chat about trucks. the guy didn't change the wring harness as for as i can tell. the wires over by the battery r all cut up but nothing on the alternater side is mess up. i can get the truck 2 run but i don't know if it is right and of course it's not charging. i will try and get some pics today and try and post them. thaks again guys

Do a search, someone here swapped a late model alternator into a truck a few months ago, they removed the voltage regulator and it was a matter of connecting the wires from the voltage regulator to the plug on the new alternator.

thanks man i have been doing some research today and lc engineering has a mounting kit 2 put a gm alternater one wire and replace all of that other stuff thanks again for your help.
