My Banana, 81 yota
She is brand new for me an 81 with 175000 miles on her! suspension is rough and tires are bald... other than that she is perfect!!! i couldn't believe the guy was selling for only 1000 bones!! I don't know much about yotas still... Is there a lift already on it? Where can i get a decent lift kit? Thanks all for looking!
http://i755.photobucket.com/albums/x...S/P1000365.jpg the engine is way clean http://i755.photobucket.com/albums/x...S/P1000372.jpg http://i755.photobucket.com/albums/x...S/P1000363.jpg |
wow thats what a stock engine compartment looks like, if you change wheels, there are a guys looking for stock wheels all the time. You got a good deal. Looks all stock suspension to me.
|
NICE RIG!!
I wish it was mine! |
Welcome to the banana yellow 1981 Toyota club!
http://i587.photobucket.com/albums/s...shGuard004.jpg Yours looks like it was taken care of a bit better than mine was. Mine has about 166,000 miles, rough interior, and a 20R from motorhome. |
my dad had the same truck with a 6" lift on it but it was stolen... well it had a visor on it too though.
|
man hilux i like the grill guard and tires... shoot!!! The interior in mine looks really clean! the only problem is the stupid headlights don't work.... hahaha
|
if i were you i would just upgrade the suspension keeping it close to stock and just put some bigger tires on it.
|
THATS A f'in classic bro... sweet score welcome to the SICK YOTA CLEAN ENGINE CLUB
http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/e...f/P1010133.jpg yeah id put some 31 inch m/ts maybe 32s and enjoy! armour up if your gonna offroad though... body parts wont be hard to find for that! |
Buhundred are you finally able to drive the 4runner???
if so thats GREAT! |
Thats all for the comments!! yeah the plan is to put a 3.5 inch lift on it add some 32's and lockers and armor and then use it as a light off road but mainly a daily driver! the fundage is seriously escaping me though... hahaha any suggestions? The only lifts i have found are all 700 bones and armor aint cheap either... is rhino liner heavy? i heard it is... well thanks all again for the comments i will keep it all updated!
|
im not sure about rhino, but i have line-ex and its pretty heavy duty, its good stuff
|
yeah but is it gonna slow down my truck? haha it barely gets 89 horses as it is... with bigger tires, lockers, and armor am i gonna have to modify it to keep what little power i have?
|
bigger tires will slow down your truck, how much armor are you thinking about throwing on it? im not sure about lockers because i dont have them on my truck, but i dont think they will slow your truck down too much.
|
I am not sure how much armor i really want... i know i want some skid plates and a roll bar with some 4x4 lights... plus new bumpers and grill guards... and i thought about rhino lining the bed... I don't care about speed as much as power.
|
what size tires are you thinking about putting on
|
wow looks stock to me
u should put some different rims and bigger tires it would look sick |
If money is an issue, but you have access to a welder, this is the best way to lift it:
CHEVY SPRINGS FAQ Probably most common rear lift springs! Everything you ever wanted to know about Chevy Springs! http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showt...threadid=20665 If you actually have a question that is not answered there, that would be a great place to ask it so the answer is there for everyone else. ******************************** REARS SPRINGS UP FRONT Probably most common front lift springs! Rears Up Front (RUF) FAQ: http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=265669 Stock toy rears move the axle forward 2" because they are only 20.5" on the front half where as a stock toyota front spring is 22.5". But you have to add a few leaves to the pack to make them stiff enough to hold up the front of the truck. |
I think the round headlight trucks are the prettiest but I might be opening a can of worms with that remark... :D
I paid 400 for my '80 2wd that I've easily blown a grand into so far and plan to sink another 1500 into before it's done. I'd say that you got yourself a real steal there (although I would assume you will have other minor, annoying problems pop up that plauge any 30 year old vehicle). IMHO there is a very simple grace to a stock Toyota truck that is seldom appreciated these days. I have nothing against built crawlers, rigs, oversized tires or bada$$ offroaders but the original concept of the Toyota truck - simple, small, reliable, and tough really strikes a chord with me. It was a barebones truck - a real grassroots american concept that came straight from the engineers in Japan. |
About the little problems, there really wont be many! i have all of the receipts from all the mechanic jobs that have been done and alot of those little things have already been done! i was very lucky
