My 1979 20R 2wd build process (pics)

I'm in the process of getting this truck back on the road. It sat ten years before I got it. Please follow along and offer any input to helping me get my truck going. I am a do it yourselfer person so forgive me for not understanding some things.
Things Ive done so far.

Fuel Pump,Fuel filter, Plugs, Fresh oil,Battery, some coolant (after a drain) and some gas(non-ethynol)

Before I cranked it I drained oil and squirted some marvel mystery in the cylinders. I let it sit over night and then manually rotated the engine. Let it sit most the day and repeated. Then the day after that I started her up and she purrrrrrred. Then a week later after fixing the clutch I cranked it up and she screamed so loud I thought it was gonna blow. My gas pedal was stuck on the floor. Well now it idle to high and I thing the Carb is clogged with vacuum line that old.
Recently I removed the carb and my exhaust manifold which is cracked but I think I found one for 20 bucks that I have to pull tomorrow.

Im trying to figure out how to post better pics.Hopefully tomorrow I will have lots more.

Things that I plan on doing.

At first I was thinking of getting a weber carburetor and desmogging, but what I might do is soak the factory carburetor or rebuild it first and see if I can get it to run good before putting a lot of money into it.
Can I desmog it with the factory carb on it? Just wondering.

I have the factory carb off now and when I reach in my intake, there is alot of soot in there heading towards the engine. Can I spray cleaner in there or should I take it off and clean it? Maybe thats causing a high idle. I don't know.

Are you taking pictures with a smartphone? If so use the photobucket app to send them to an account with them. Then once on a computer get on your account on their website and go to an image and right click and selct "copy image url". Then hit the little yellow mountain picture in the message reply box and enter the image url. This will make for large picture. Hope that helps and good luck with the rebuild looking forward to some pictures.

I got my intake manifold off today. It was clogged along with the AI port also. Can I spray anything into my block to clean any soot out or should I get what I can and let it blow out on its own? Also the exhaust manifold is off and looks dirty. Any tips to clean it some.

I also took off my smog pump and my AC compressor. I plan on desmogging.

When you are in your photobucket album, copy and paste the [I mg] code into your post.
It is the both line that shows up when you scroll over the thumbnail in your album-bottom line...stupid phone..

Edit.see image above

^^^

Look at the pic below. On the left shows copying the image url not the image itself. On the right shows what button you copy the image url into.

I sprayed my intake with B12 while it was still on before removing. After removing I noticed it puddling up in my intake ports with that cleaner so I vacuumed it out as best I could. I read that you can hydrolock an engine if cleaner gets in your cylinders I believe. I hope none seeped in there. I checked to see if my valves were covering the hole and they seemed to be.
Should I do something incase any did get in there. I wont be cranking it for a bit until I get parts in but should I manually crank it to make sure I didnt hydrolock it? This was about 6 hours ago so the cleaner is probally evaported by now if in fact it did get in there. If I screwed up then this project is done already. Also do all valves close or seal at same time? Thanks for any advice.

Alright this weekend is the weekend I really get things moving. I will be taking some pics of me doing some things.

Today I was cleaning my intake and I broke one of the nipples off the plastic thing under the intake manifold. I am desmogging so whats the purpose of that thing and what do I need to do? Replace it, cap it, take it off and cap it? IDK.

Just a heads up on the weber. I have the same one. I got it brand new and had to change out the idle jets. The stock weber gasket for the adapter plate are crap. IF you can try and get a thick better gasket.
