L52 / L50 Transmission Question?
I just purchased a 5 speed either L50 or L52 Transmission for my 1980 4x4 pickup. It appears that the front Input seal is leaking. . . . . My question is can you take off the bearing plate around the main shaft to get to the seal? Or will taking out these 6 bolts cause internal transmission damage? I guess my question is can I take this plate off and replace the seal without any damage?
If I can do this I want to do it now because the transmission is not yet in, bought it today. Any help would be greatly appreciated Thanks!!!!
Also besides cutting a now hole in my floor board will I have any trouble mating this tranny to my 20R? I have the shift fork and hardware from my new tranny. Everything online seems to make it seem like a simple bolt up. I know eberyone on here is very knowledgable so I thought I would ask.

everything will bolt up fine besides 2 of the bellhousing bolts. they need to be a little longer (when i changed my tranny the first time). also you might have a problem with the t-case if you use the 80 case with the l52. the splines will hit on the output of the l52. you will see what i mean when you do it if you are swapping the cases. just use a grinder and shave them down a little.
should not have any problem taking off the cover plate to replace the seal.
delete your other thread.
also if i were you i would replace the cup/socket and seat
