How rare are Trekkers? I found one for $500...
A very close friend of mines husband sold a Trekker to his brother years back, its sitting in their barn! they used to take it hunting... Im wondering if its worth buying and cleaning up???

It depends on how much you'd have to invest to make it a worthy vechile to use.
|
I'll take it...
Yes I'd say very worth it, but it does depend on it's condition. They are pretty rare. I'm in an area where you still see a good amount of FJ40 Landcruisers and '79-83 pickups, and I've only ever seen one or two Trekkers. |
Winnebago converted 1200 4x4 cab/chassis from 81-83. There are not a ton of them left on the road. The bed/cap behind the cap is fiberglass.
I would say take a look at it and buy it. |
Buy it. They are extremely rare. I've only seen one in my life, and it was awesome. But make sure you look at the frame to know what you're getting yourself into.

Did they make them in 2wd? theres one in town a guy was trying to give away

just make sure you get a title. some people did cut out the rear wall of the cab and do their own conversion.. |
For $500 I'd say get it unless the frame is wasted with rust. I live in Colorado, where the majority of them are found, and I've only seen 3-4 of them.
|
i'd tell you not to get it and to pass on contact info to me, but seeing as you are on the opposite coast, i'm willing to tell you to go for it! :D

trailblazer, griffin, trekker and 1984 Mojave pick-ups are 4 Toyota's i would buy in a heart beat, they are extremely hard to come by, i would take one that is in bad shape because everything can be repaired as long as you have the time and patience to do the project.

Im working on it :)
Im working on getting back in touch with the guy that is selling it, its not being advertised anywhere and its just sitting in a garage!

I love the Trekkers ... I say buy it .
but there not a "truck" as per say ... but the first "small" SUV .. |
A year later!!
Out of the blue a year later I get a call today from the lady that had the Trekker, I never heard back from them when I called, she told me that her husband still has it and it came up that they want rid of it again this week and that she will be back in touch with me this week, if not to call her back next week and she gave me 2 different numbers to reach her on, she said its an 82 that hasnt been on the road in a few years but ran great and was in original shape when they parked it... I guess we shall see if she follows through!! :bump:
|
BUY IT........... i would also be knocking down the door to get an official answer.

WOW!! So now there are TWO Trekkers in WV??? I thought I had the only one!:laugh:
I say BUY IT and bring it back to life. They are awesome!! Mine is currently undergoing some much needed work. New suspension, gears, lockers, brakes, and eventually a Weber, cam, and header. Mine has 135K miles and was a southwest vehicle before I bought it so it's in great shape frame and body wise. |
what should I look for?
I called and left the guy a message this morning, we are playing phone tag but I told him Id like to come look at it if possible this weekend. Im going to check the frame and cab for rust and the fiberglass for any cracks but I am not familiar at all with the solid axle trucks. Is there anything else I should look at? He did tell me last night that it has a rebuilt carb and that he actually just took it off the road within the month so I would be able to drive it home!
|
Frame rot is really the only thing that kills these trucks...everything else can be replaced or rebuilt. If you are able to do all your own work then bringing an old yota back to life really doesn't cost alot. Don't get me wrong though, you can sink alot of money into it...just depends on what you want as a "final product".
My opinion is 1) it's a (coveted) Trekker; 2) you can "drive" it home; 3) $500 bucks!.....BUY IT! :great: |
x2^^^^
If you can drive it and it's a Trekker, you better take it. If not, please give me his address and I'll go get it myself all the way from Texas! |
