Help!, 1980 20r coolant and vacuum line mystery
To preface, this is a calif. truck that every time it gets worked on more smog crap gets pulled off since its no longer in CA.
i've looked at the idiot book, spent three days on forums, to no avail. now asking it myself

If you're just asking about that hose that's exactly the size of the connection sitting there with no hose attached, having exactly the right bend to fit the connection...yes, I'd say it goes there. 
If you're asking about something more, try to be more specific. I'm not trying to be rude...I know how complicated carb connections can be, and how hard it is to find the right diagrams. So I've kinda learned...if it looks like it was meant to fit together, it probably fits together. All I can see that you're asking about is the hose that looks like a small coolant hose, disconnected from the pipe right in front of it. Loose hose, empty connection, right next to each other...that's where it goes.
If you're asking what it does...I dunno. My experience with carbs is that coolant will only be routed through them if they have a water choke, but my experience with carbs is limited and fading...

The loose hose is the heater hose, and it goes to the fitting that is sticking out. Tighten the clamp so it doesn't blow off when the system pressurizes. The fitting isn't vacuum, it's water.

got it done, i had to replace head gasket in the freezing PNW, over two weeks waiting for parts and weekend to acually work on it.
things got forgotten in between removal and reassembly.
now just sorting out rocker lash, timing and carb tuning, just needs to last the winter then 22r swap in spring from 86 2wd parts rig

Good to hear! Yeah I know how that goes. When I took out the engine in my 83, I took a LOT of photos. Always a good idea. But you can't take photos of everything from every angle. I know when I'm taking things apart, I always think "oh I'll totally remember how that fit together/where that went"...And I'm usually wrong
