factory A/C install

I wanted to share some photos of my '83 4x4. I always wanted A/C in my roach so I decided to buy a "kit" off of Ebay. It was $400. The "kit" was pulled off of an old truck. I know it sounds scary. I wasn't sure if I was getting all the components and whether they worked. But knowing A/C kits were dealer installed gave me the motivation to go ahead with the project.

After a five month project I'm happy to say all the components work, the system has no leaks and it blows 44 degrees. The only new parts were a new V-belt, a new A/C dryer and converting the compressor to R134. I did a lot of other restoration work to the interior while I pulled the dash. New dash bezel, dash pad, vents, heater core, dash frame ect. Here are some pics.

Attachment 91494I came across your thread and I have a few questions for you.
1. Do you know if I could use the1979 pick up ac components for a 1980 pick up? I found the parts on eBay for $800 and I want to know if it’s worth it.
2. How do you convert the ac compressor from R12 to R134?
