brake and battery light after replacing Carb?
Hey y'all. I replaced my old carb with a rebuilt one from national carburetors toy505 last night and now my battery light and e brake light won't turn off. I checked the alternator by removing the negative to the battery while the truck is running and although the lights dim it does stay running. Is there something obvious going on here that I'm missing? I didn't notice anything that got unplugged by mistake. Truck is a 1983 automatic with a 22r. Thanks y'all

These two things are so far removed from one another that my guess is they are unrelated and just coincidentally happened at the same time.
The only electrical connection on your carburetor was the choke, correct? Unplug the old and plug in the new.
You certainly could've bumped or broken a wired connection somewhere or grounded something while replacing the carb. Can you take it to Autozone or a similar place and have them test your alternator to make sure it's still getting proper charge to the battery?
If you reach under the dash and manually press the e-brake button with your finger does it change the light at all?

Brake and battery light coming on at the same time usually indicates that the alternator isn't any good. Have it checked.
Removing the battery cable while the car is running is bad practice and shouldn't be done. You can damage stuff on the vehicle and it doesn't tell you anything.

thanks for the replies! It ended up being the Voltage Regulator. I followed the instructions for testing its resistance with a multi meter in the factory service manual and it was reading all over the place.
It must been a total coincidence that this happened right when I swapped my carb. I think it must have gotten fried because the truck has all this poorly wired aftermarket stuff like wiper delay and cruise control.
ps. so far this National Carburetors toy505 is killing it and was only $145 on Amazon.
