bed liner "mat"
I have searched and can't find any info on compatible bed liners for 1st gen.
I'll just edit this first post to get this going:[deleted text!]
Here's a template for making bedliner measurements. 1st generation pickups seem to be left out of manufacturing of bedliners and mats, so I hope people will be able to post their measurements of potential "donor trucks". So 1st gen owners might be able to buy a one for say, Mazda or Ford longbed, and be able to trim off excess, maybe ending with only a small amount of uncovered bed. BUT THIS CAN BE FOR ANY MODEL! FIND A GOOD DEAL ON A USED OR CLOSEOUT BED LINER? THIS WILL HELP YOU DETERMINE IF IT WILL FIT (pardon the yelling). I'll post my 1st gen '83 dimensions below the photo:
The photo has the back of the truck at the bottom, and front of the truck at the top. C is from the front wall to the front of the wheel well, for instance.
Let's leave a half inch of space when posting measurements, so if there's 41 inches between the wheel wells for a tight fit, post 40.5". If there is a square cutout needed at the corner for frame (this photo has them at the bottom, like on my 94 Toyota had), you can mention it, but make the measurements as if those weren't there. We can always cut them to fit.
So my '83 longbed SR5 has these dimensions:
A. (width) 61.5"
B. (length) 87"
C. (front to wheel well) 24"
D. (wheel well) 32"
E. (wheel well to back) 31.25"
F. (wheel well to wheel well) 40"
I'll begin to post other trucks when I get measurements, starting with the S10 I took my Leer topper from.

We'll have to get them side by side, measure distance to wheel wells, from front to back, and distance between wheel wells. Front to back measurements would be nice to verify, though there are published numbers:

You can see below that I've edited the first post. I looked for an all Toyota truck accessories forum category (non-commercial), but there isn't one for all models. This will do for now!

dimensions for Ranger 2001-2011 2WD extracab
Here are dimensions for a shortbed Ranger for model years 2001-2011. Bedliner mat for this Ford might fit 1st gen shortbed, but it seems too narrow by a good 10 inches (4-5 inch gap each side), but wheel well to wheel well dimension looks close. We'll need short bed 1st gen dimensions to verify.
A. (width) 51"
B. (length) 71"
C. (front to wheel well) 20"
D. (wheel well) 28"
E. (wheel well to back) 20.5"
F. (wheel well to wheel well) 40"
I need to get back to that S10 longbed. It is probably too narrow as well since 1st gen is single walled construction. We'll see

I haven't tried it, but if I was in your shoes, I'd look at buying a horse stall mat, and cutting it to size. They are usually 4" by 6" or so, and run about 35 bucks at Tractor Supply. You could use cardboard to cut out a template, and then transfer that to the stall mat.

Truck Customizers is selling Protecta bedliners (all sizes) for $67. I decided to just go for it. The one I chose to carve up and fit is the one for a Chevy full size pickup (6974D). Dimensions are 62" by 97-1/4". This is about a half inch too wide. I wonder if it is really a half inch too wide?
I may end up with a minor gap somewhere around the wheel wells, but maybe not- I did measure a full size Chevy shortbed, and width was close (about 40") between the wheel wells. I should be able to trim the front and back off the ends so that the wheel wells center. In fact Toyota wheel wells might be longer, front to back, so might have to trim to lengthen wheel well gaps.
Final price including shipping was just under $80 ($12.99 shipping). I'll update when I get it and trim it to fit. I'm thinking utility cutter on the garage floor with metal straight edge should work to guide clean straight cuts.

Full coverage!
The Protecta bedliner mat for Chevy full size pickup worked. In fact, the width was a perfect, snug fit. I reversed it compared to Chevy install (front/back), and trimmed off excess:
It rolled in like it was a factory fit. Nice.
It was easy to cut with a utility blade holder knife and a metal straight edge.
Here's the left rear corner under the brakelight/turnsignal box
It fits better than the one I bought for my '94 shortbed years ago. It seems like the same brand. Nice and heavy.
