83 Toytoa SR5 4x4 drivetrain questions
Hi All, I am new to the Toyota world and have a few questions.
I just bought an 83 Sr5 std cab with a 22r and a 5 speed. The truck is not rusted out and is in good shape. The questions I have are in the driveline
1) There is a noise in the front. It sounds like a rumble ( RRRRRRRRRR). It starts at about 15 mph and continues thru 45 mph and then gets quieter. If I turn a sharp right is goes away, only to return when I straighten the wheel out. The sound is present in 2wd, 4wd, hubs locked or unlocked. It gets a little worse if I turn a sharp left.
2) There is a chirping noise on takeoff followed by a clunk. I can feel a slight shudder, sort of like the clutch is slipping. If I take off hard I can't feel it. It is most pronounced just after shifting into 2nd, 3rd driving normally. It feels like a wobble, or vibration. The chirping noise sounds like someone is tapping driveshaft with a box wrench.
I am not too familiar with 4x4s so this is all new to me ( I work on Vw's).
Any help is greatly apreciated. This seems like a respectible site.
Thanks!

1) You may have to pull the knuckle(s) apart to see what's going on. Could be bad/dry bearing(s) or many other possibilities. Start by pulling the manual hub, maybe it isn't really unlocking.
Get yourself a FSM first, so you have instructios and diagrams.
2) Start buy checking the u-joints in the drive shaft, and make sure the drive shaft to flange bolts are tight.
