81 22r in a 80 truck. thermo switches?

I put a 22r from a 1981 truck into my 1980 truck and it has been running pretty good so far except today when i tried to go back to work after lunch it died about 1/4 mile from my house and it wouldnt start again so i had a neighbor toe me home. after i let the truck sit for a few hours i went out and pulled the air cleaner assy off and tried a few times to start it. it started for a brief moment and then died again and quickly flooded out. why all of the sudden it just started acting up today is a mystery to me but i know there are a few things not quite right from the engine swap. the 22r is supposted to have 2 thermoswiches coming out of the intake and my truck doesnt have the same wiring for them because the 20r that was in it only has one and it looks different and is in the thermostat housing. so i guess i have 2 questions. what likley caused my problem today and what should i do about those thermo switches?

It looks like the wires for those switches go to the little brown box just infront of the drivers door wich im assuming is the emissions computer. i dont know yet where they go from there. i dont want to have to swap the whole wiring harness. if i cant get it to run right pretty soon i think im gonna get a webber for it but i dont have $400 to spend right now. please help

right now it is either so full of clean gas that it looks empty or it is really empty, and i was just out there cranking on it about 10 miutes ago. if its over full does that just mean i need to adjust my float or is there more than one cause for that. also i have fuel leaking from my charcoal canister when cranking on the motor. ive searched that problem and everyone keeps saying that the lines must be plugged in backward. are they trying to say that the line thats supposed to be carrying exess fuel from the pump to the tank is routed to the CC. ive checked the lines and they seem to be run correctly to my understanding, except for the fact that the vent pipe on the carb is going to the CC. i know thats how the fuel is getting in there but is that how its supposed to be routed? both trucks only have 1 CC each and my book show that i should have 2 for this motor.

if its all the way up the needle is stuck open. if its empty there is no gas in the carb. I had the same problem with the bowl overflowing. just above the sightglass on the top of the carb tap on it to move the needle

the needle was stuck open. i cleaned it out and got the truck running pretty smooth but im still having trouble. it wont idle unless the truck is completely warmed up and i cant start it unless the idle is set at 2000. is there anyone out there who has experience putting 22rs into trucks that are supposed to have a 20r. i plan on putting a 20r head on soon but i dont know what carb to run. i know the 22r is bigger but i cant get it to run right for me on this truck. it was running good in the donor truck.

on the original 20r .. the choke is activated/worked by coolant temps .. 22r is electric

have you accounted for this change in your wiring ?

.

yes. i ran it to a switched 12v power source along with the wire for the outer bowl vent and the fuel cut solenoid. then someone told me they are not supposed to get 12 volts. i don't know if he was right about that or if that could be causing my problems

Is the choke linkage working properly?

i dont know for sure. if i try to let it idle before its warmed up to 190 degrees then the engine wants to die but once its warmed up it will idle ok most of the time. last night it was giving me trouble even tho it was plenty warm.
