4wd, 2wd bed differences
Just wondered about differences in these beds? I know the 2wd has no fender flares, what else?
|
Assuming your talking about a 79-83 truck right.
Well mostly what you see is the difference. It will bolt on either 2 or 4wd trucks |
Yes, 79-83. I am restoring an 83 4wd long box and the bed is the missing piece of the puzzle. I just found a 2wd bed in good condition that I hopefully pick up tomorrow.

You know you can buy a brand new fiberglass bed. There pricy but well worth it.
I've seen trucks that people converted the 2wd to 4wd. If u can do body work u can do it |
I don't think giving $2,000 for a fiberglass bed would be very cost effective for me. I'll be getting this 2wd truck for $300, no engine. So I can sell off what I don't use, and maybe come out even.

Someone who knows more will speak up...or you can try a search.
I feel like there is some other difference between the two. Nothing that can't be worked out with some basic fabrications skills, but I think there is some small difference with how they mount up or where something is located. But I think it would be a pretty minor fix to get the thing on your truck. |

I hate that the bottom of the bed isn't going to line up with the cab, but it'll have to do. Thanks guys.

Hi I made a thread on another forum on how to mount flares on a 2wd bed. Thought it might help you out. Here you go.

I started a thread a few months ago with the same question, the 2wd bed is a little shorter and it will show a height difference right behind the cab, the wheel wells are a bit smaller too. I'm looking at a toyota bed trailer right now for a few hundred bucks with a nice bed to swap mine out with, and I can still have a trailer. Check around Craigslist, maybe you can find one.
