Looking for a little advice. My friend and me work very close on projects together and are in a little bit of a situation. The reg cab 83 PU currently has a L series 4 speed and tired 22R with a weber. We have been considering a OM617 swap since they are common and cheap in this area however the L series transmission will definitely not hold up long behind the diesels torque. We have a few options for transmission but the R150 transmission would probably be one of the better options. Any advice or wisdom on this swap.

Quite honestly i think the L series transmission should be fine. The stock OM617 only put out 120 ft/lb of torque. That about equal to a 22r with a weber, cam and an exhaust. I know marlin crawler sells parts to beef up the L series as well

I would just swap to a second gen 5 speed like a g-56 or w-56. They are good transmissions and have minimal modifications to install
