3" body lift ?
I bought a cheap body lift off of ebay. It says to install bumper brackets to raise the bumper, what I have left are 4 bracket that are 3"x2"x1 1/4" rectangles. How do I install these?

Those rectangles are your bed supports. If you look, you will see in stock form the middle of the box is supported by resting on the frame. Once you install a body lift the middle of the box now has no support. Hence the need for spacers. Get them tac welded to the frame in the proper position.

thanks for the info,

And you don't use all of them BTW. I bought a Performance Accessories 3" BL and I had a couple of the supports left over. Not sure if you're asking where the bumper brackets are, but for my lift, I had to use factory brackets. I put right bracket on left side but flipped it up instead of down and vice versa.

sorry for the hijack...
but, are the bed supports really necessary if you're not carrying heavy loads. I've been told that unless you're carrying a bed full of gravel or something else really heavy, you don't really need them. I didn't install them when i put my 2" BL on. I still have them, so should I go back and put them on? |
I just have two welded on mine in the center of the bed in the wheel wells. I don't carry heavy loads myself, but who's to say that I won't get a call from a friend to help haul something? What would I say, "Sorry, I didn't install the included bed supports with my lift." Haha

I didnt bother installing them for a few months after I did the body lift. But my buddy had a welder so we threw them in, its nice knowing you have support in there. I felt the bed flex a little when my fat ass was walking in the bed....

http://www.4crawler.com/4x4/ForSale/...it.shtml#FAQ13 http://www.4crawler.com/4x4/ForSale/...html#BedSpacer http://www.4crawler.com/4x4/ForSale/...edSpacer01.jpg On the earlier pickups, not so critical as on the Tacoma pickups, since the early pickups had 8 bed mounts (2 pair up front and 2 pair in back) while the Tacoma only has 6 (2 pair in front and 1 pair in back). And if you choose to install them, only 2 are really needed. One of the bed spacer points is on the horizontal portion of the frame, but the other location is where the frame is angled, so unless you fab up a parallelogram shaped spacer, a square one will not really work. Plus those two points are right next to each other. |
Acutally the rectangle spacer works quite well on the curved part of the frame. The stock bed has mount thats angled in, the rectangle spacer fits in very well, two tac welds each and they are not going anywhere.
