1981 Exhaust Replacement - What are my options

I'd like to upgrade what I have as it is completely stock, rusty, and now broken.
It's an 81 4wd deluxe. What can I get that will allow me to still pass smog.

Any guidance or links to what I can get is much appreciated.

Thanks,

I'd find a good shop close to you, and have them build you a new exhaust.

That would be your best bet. Any good muffler shop could build you a total exhaust system from exhaust manifold back, to meet state standards.

No idea what condition your truck is in stock or any engine mods, 300k on the engine or recent rebuild.Good info to put on the sig line here.

I got lucky with mine - found a fairly new exhaust in a parts yard about 7 years ago - seek and ye shall find.

It's a stock 1981 DLX 4WD. (General image now should be in the signature, will get engine image tomorrow).
It has a number of missing hoses to the carb, and am trying to piece some of the parts together.
Just ordered a FSM that I should be getting in a week or so and am very new to owning this truck so forgive my lack of knowledge.

I will look into going to a shop but would prefer to do it myself. Seems like there are a number of different exhaust manifolds out there. I could probably grab a universal catalytic conv. and universal muffler. Was hoping to shed some light on a decent set up that I can maybe just buy online somewhere and bolt it on.

I see you are in California so has the truck passed the smog inspection yet? With missing hoses I would tend to doubt it would.
Also, if the cat were bad it probably wouldn't pass either - so for the moment I'm guessing it is OK.

Is that the situation here?

So, the truck was registered as non op, likely because the previous owner tried to mod the engine to some degree. I took it to a shop and they sourced some factory parts and had a hard time finding a few "stock" parts.
Regardless, I am currently just trying to figure out the exhaust and will deal with the other missing pieces at a later date. That said, I need to get it smogged to officially register it. I can't drive it currently because there of the exhaust issue and the cloud of smoke I leave behind me.

Looks like you can get most of it through Walker http://www.walkerexhaust.com/catalog...catalog-lookup

If it is smoking you should address that before the exhaust system. If it is burning oil that could kill the cat.
