Sandblasters
Well, i want to sandblast some parts on the toy(bumper/frame/axles) and my buddy wants to paint his rusty chrome bumpers on his ranger. We cant find anyone locally that rents a machine out for a day but only to find a place that costs 98$/hr... Up here in canada we have a store called princess auto, very similar to harbour freight.
Found a nice little unit for 160$cnd http://www.princessauto.com/air/sand...on-sandblaster 4.0 CFM @ 90 PSI Cont. air consumption: 15 CFM @ 90 PSI Working pressure: 90 PSI Deadman style sandblasting gun, 9 ft. hose, filling funnel, shut-off valve, pressure gauge and 4 ceramic nozzles Pressurized design gives 30% more sandblasting power than siphon units Use with 3 HP or larger air compressor recommended what do you guys think? anyone used these kind before? |
Depends on your compressor. Buddy runs one of those with his 2 stage compressor and has no troubles. Lent it out to a guy with a small 2 horse and not so well. If you're going all out and doing an off-frame kinda job, I'd go the industrial route. If so, I'd recommend Consolidated Compressor in the S.E. They're located just south of Pick'n'Pull on the east side of Barlow, listed in the Yellow Pages under COMPRESSOR.

I have a similar unit, and I use an industrial grade 220v compressor with it. These type of sandblasters use a LOT of air and a lot of sand. You might be able to get away with an angle grinder with a wire wheel attatchment on it. It all depends on how rusty we're talking!

I have one along these lines .
Get sand blasting sand all other types of sand is packed wet to keep down the dust. Which causes the sand to clog. Black beauty was the best but hard to find anymore. You want to keep the air going into the blaster as dry as possible That also can cause grief and frustration You also might want to install a extra tank for more cfm stopping when the compressor starts up. I have found unless you are blasting a lot it is more of a pain and if you do lot of blasting I found it to be way to small. One of those things do it your self spend at least 1/2 a day or more send it out run some other errands and pick it up and your ready to go. |
Great info guys... mmm what to do..
