Lincoln 175 issue
 

So recently got my welder out of storage for three years. To make a long story short. I go to set it up today to install new muffler. Test wire feed and welder shuts down. Go through trouble shooting and it is in fact the welder and it is not tripping breaker in back of machine just shuts off. Wait a minute and fan will come back on but machine dies as soon as I pull trigger.

Lincolns web site is not very helpful. Trouble shooting guides says take to dealer. Any one have experience with this situation? Don't mind taking to dealer if it is not a simple fix.

Any help is appreciated.

Does this still have the molded plug from the factory??

If you have replaced it quite often things come loose and you loose a leg.

Have you checked your input voltage to make sure you have not lost a leg and it is trying to run on 120VAC

You are checking things with no wire tension??

You did pull the wire from the gun You are in a dry climate but strange things happen.

If you don`t do the maintenance like you should I have seen grinding grit block guide tubes and wire rust fast to that with the tension to tight just stall the drive motor.

Indeed. I bought a pawn shop welder and pretty much replaced most of the consumable parts right off the bat. I'd pull the wire from the sleeve and try it and double check all connections.

You should also take the case apart and clean out the inside. Clean off the fan and all that. I know that when I pulled the casing off it looked like the desert threw up inside it.

I honestly have no idea what I did, but I have a theory. After I posted later that night the wife says to me " the dryer is tumbling but not heating" worked fine before I tried welder.

I research how to check a 230 outlet, get the multimeter. Well there's a large spark and I had change my undies. This time both breakers are fully tripped reset. welder worked!!!! I also checked all connects and the tensioner, didn't find anything that I could point to and say that was problem. But got new muffler welded in. Three years without touching a welder did not improve my welding at all

For some reason you had lost a leg of your input power.

The question is now why??

Loose connection in the breaker box

In the dryer ??

In the outlet??

Yeah, it was kinda a relief when I unplugged the welder and the dryer's element wasn't working. Unfortunately/fortunately I live in military housing and getting the maintenance ppl to fix a problem that I discovered while attempting to do something they'll tell me just not to do. I was tempted to look in to it more but..... I wouldn't mind going to the auto craft shop except it's been closed down.

The thing with that though is loose connections cause heat .

Heat causes those nasty fires leaving people with nothing .

after the welder is back in bed so to speak you just might to ask if this is something to worry about.

Most likely you will get told only after the building is being hauled away after then fire.
