Help me date this toolbox
3 Attachment(s)
I'm trying to figure out how old my great grandfathers old craftsman toolbox is, he passed away a few years ago and technically has to be sold according to the will so my uncle is selling it to me. I'm trying to figure a date on it so I can shoot him a price, the most I can figure is late 60's early 70's. it's red and silver and the logo is underlined by a triangle. Here's some pictures

looks like about twenty bucks to me. what's your uncle some kind of cheapskate and needs to get his "antique" tool box appraised? pretty lame move to do to family in my opinion.
just my $0.02. |
Hahaha, I just saw where Michael Bloomberg said something similar. He said is your have a transaction of $100 within your family there is something wrong with you. I don't have a problem with it, when I asked him about I didn't think it would be free. I posted the same question on garage journal and they said anywhere between 75 and 150

From a standpoint of buying it as a consumer... Maybe $100-$200.00
Transfer in the family... Free If it HAS to be sold to legally meet the requirements of the Will then a price of 0.01 seems reasonable. |
Well it does have to be sold to meet the requirement of the will. However, there is other stuff on the sell list that's not being sold. I don't want to just take it or just hand him a few bucks for it since it was his fathers toolbox

I bought a similar tool box from my brother in law for $20...
It covered his gas to drop it off. 'Tool box has to be sold' interesting wording for a will.. |

Slightly off topic, I found this snap-on 71-M 1/2 drive ratchet on the counter beside the toolbox, I figured out they ran this ratchet from 1950-65. Unfortunately the detent/ratchet lever is missing

Clean it up and use it, I'd go 40 at the most.

I gave him $50 for it all of the tools in the old cabinet shop have to be sold by this November so hopefully I'll end up with a pedestal grinder and a full-sized drill press as well. Here it is with my other boxes, the black craftsman was a high school graduation present from the parents last summer, and I got the red Waterloo at a yard sale this morning...now I have empty drawers. Time for more tools!!!
