Toyotas in the artic :Location: Iceland

Went on a brillient 3days trip last weekend with friends.
We drove to the mountains on friday night where we stayed in a cabin for the night. Then drove into the middle of the highland on the saturday untill we got to a cabin called setur where we spent the the saturday night bbq ing and drinking bear and having fun.
On the sunday we had to get back. The return trip took 19hours do to harsh snow condition and trucks breaking down. But my 4runner did well. The fuel consumption was good! Approximatly 25gallons of oil for the weekand. Would have been abour 60 if i was still with the 3.0 v6.

Cold Start in Hólaskógur on Saturday morning.

I'm cold just looking at that, however it looks fun.

Just out of curiosity, how deep of snow can the fjz80 drive in without getting stuck?

Fantastic trip report and great pics! Good to hear from our icelandic members again...
love that Hilux DC... very nice cabin... is that a club cabin or one of those "survival" cabins I've heard the government puts up in the back country to protect travelers/workers caught in storms?...
Looked like that chef was hard at work setting up a nice Pork Loin Roast... want to share a recipe for Icelandic style Barbecue?

Jomoka Dec 8, 2011 09:52 AM

Epic post.

Are there any rear pics of the blue (I think) 4runner? Looks like it has a very unique tailgate/rear door.... I'm talking about the royal blue on in the 7th and 10th pictures from the top.

Is it really necessary to criticize the tire choice??

Amazing pics! This reminds me of the Top Gear special - except you guys don't have a production crew with you and support trucks that are there to make sure the BBC doesn't have to pay out any insurance claims to dead TV hosts families.

That looks like amazing fun - some of the toughest looking trucks ever.

This is a club cabin , one of 4 on the highland that this club has. The storm shelters are much simpler.
